How to install Schluter Ditra on Plywood

Schluter Ditra EXPLAINED #tile #howtotile #Schlutersystems #uncoupling #shortsSchluter. Ditra is installed on the plywood sub floor with a polymer modified thinset, using an 11/64" square notched trowel. First the plywood is dampened with a sponge and water, then the flat side of the Ditra trowel is used to spread the thinset onto the ply wood to key it in, then the notched side of the trowel is used. The Ditra is then placed on the thinset and smoothed with a wooden trowel. The tile is then set on the ditra with an unmodified thinset using a ½" square notched trowel. All the tiles are back buttered before setting the tile into the combed thinset on the ditra. Finally the tile is grouted. I did a huge master bedroom and I didnt have the trowel I needed so I used a larger one. I will never do that again! Lumpy is a great word. The tile were 5ft long and 18” wide. Wood plank type of install. Tile came out great!

You're the man sal, I hope you don't mind answering a question for me but is it okay to do the wet bed in the shower pan and tile the shower pan before I install the cement board on the walls?

How do you determine if you need to pour SLU before laying down your uncoupling membrane?

Depends on the tile size but large format tile need the floor to be within 1/8” over ten feet. Ive tiled over much worse without correcting the floor and was fine.
