I will never silicone without glass cleaner (without ammonia) again. The results, speed and quality of the bead are pretty much clean and flawless, with no mess AND clean fingers, although I spray a little on my finger with each wipe. After seeing this, it appears I don’t need to and will try without. Nice job/instructional video. 👍🏼

It will fail prematurely this is a stupid idea. I have installed sealant professionally for over 40 years and have had to repair 1000s o& feet of sealant because of this stupidity
@Moneybagsss Жыл бұрын
@@genecarden780 it should be done without the window spray?
@genecarden780 Жыл бұрын
@@Moneybagsss yes the spray WILL make it fail prematurely. And it is easy to make it look good with the spray, but it will not be bonded well. So if it is in an area that will never get wet and you don’t mind replacing it every few years then use the spray. But if it will get wet and you want it to last 20-30 years, then mask and dry tool. Much more tedious takes twice as long but will actually perform as intended.Professional caulkers have a saying “ pretty is nice but bonded is better” sealants purpose is to stop water infiltration. That doesn’t mean it should be ugly but it is very unwise to choose looks over actually making it water tight.

A contractor showed me tips: 1. Cut the old silicone with a cutter. 2. Clean around to eliminate dirt and grease (you can use thinner or white spirit). 3. Mask with painter tape. 4. Apply the silicone. 5. Wet your finger and press to even the finishing.

Wish I saw this before I pulled half my hair out trying to use silicone caulk to redo my shower insert and window UGH! Between having unusable half tubes of caulk and trying to be meticulous and correct boo boos with water, mineral spirits, and denatured alcohol (just bought today) I am beyond frustrated. I wish your video had popped up sooner. I really don't want to go out and buy another product, but I have spent waaaay to much time on this already (your gloating about it taking one minute made my BP rise 🤣). I'm getting mixed messages another video a had a couple drops of laundry detergent liquid in a bottle of water sprayed and then negative comments about not having water around the silicone because it won't allow it to adhere to any adjacent surfaces which is the whole point to bridge the gap sufficiently.

The contractor who renovated our kitchen 5 years ago (not licensed) used the same grout that he used for the wall tiles for the area between the granite countertops and wall tiles… around the sink, the grout is now cracked and discolored. After watching this video, I’m thinking he should have used silicone caulk instead. Looks like I’ll be removing the bottom grout and putting in silicone caulk. Great video!!

My kitchen sink has had part of the silicone completely degrade over time. The guy at the hardware store told me to not take it all off in the event the sink is held up by the silicone. I assume in this case I should clean the areas where there is no silicone and simply re-apply silicone to those sections, Is this correct?
@davidbroderick34955 жыл бұрын
I would remove all the silicone and start over. I think that'd be the best but both would probably work.
