These OBS trucks never came with any type of sound deadener and the interior of the cab roof is no exception. Here's how to fix that!

The rubber wheel is called a "brayer", FYI. Your channel is great, you do good stuff, Stevie! That gray interior is the best looking on these '90's OBS trucks.

Holy Smoke! The inside of that truck!! That's amazing. I had no idea the interior was as nice as it is Stevie from MM! You're a beast. I KNEW you'd succumb to pulling those clearance lights to the otherside rather than bury them in the Dynamat. That's the kinda guy your are and who could complain? You have a definite eye for detail and attention with a constant eye on quality. Great video my brother! Love that you used up all the pieces! That seems like a worthy upgrade. You're right, that roof is so tinny sounding and I'll bet your's is nice and queit and oozing that quality. Thank you sir, enjoyed it much.

Thank you Patrick! The interior has come a long way and I feel there is still more to do. The dash and dome light are next on the rehab list. I just knew if I went the lazy route and covered the clearance light wires, something would go wrong. I would definitely recommend you try this Patrick. New trucks are nice but it's only because they have these extra creature comforts. So I am determined to add them to mine. lol Oh it is getting very quiet. Actually its funny. Now that the ceiling is quiet I can tell that most of the extra noise is coming through the floor and the fire wall. I have sound deadener on the floor already. Dynamat has a product called dynapad meant for the floor and it's thicker. I may give it a shot and see what happens. No problem Patrick!🤙 I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! Best regards!

If you know someone in construction - ask them to save you 'short rolls' of Soprema. It is also a self-adhesive membrane but with exposed white vinyl surface vs aluminum foil. It also comes in rolls measured in yardage instead of Dynomat's highly overpriced cut-off sections. They make soundproofing membrane, waterproofing, roofing, etc etc etc... and most any of them would work for this.

Camas Honestly Camas, I didn’t know the difference until I started driving in newer trucks. Granted, there are newer cars that definitely skimp on sound deadener. So you could be right, higher trims could come with sound deadener.

@@TheMinuteMasters What you may have realized is that the constant exposure to the noise, in addition to your work (even with hearing protection), could have a cumulative effect to degrade hearing. When you reach your 70s, it could make a difference, assuming you still WANT to hear at that age. ;)
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 4 жыл бұрын
Camas Man Camas! You hit the nail right on the head. I’ve become sensitive about wearing hearing protection during work for that very reason. My work crews already know that I hand out earplugs like candy because I don’t want anyone to lose their hearing due to cumulative hearing damage. So you are exactly right. I’m trying to quiet the cab because before I added sound deadener the inside of my cab got up to almost 90 dB on the highway. After finding out that prolonged exposure to sounds over 85 dB caused cumulative hearing damage, I knew I had to quiet the cab.

@@TheMinuteMasters I worked in a factory after I left teaching, from age 25 until 31 or so when I finally was promoted to an office job. Just during those brief years, I had small hearing loss in the high range, even though I wore my earplugs every single day. I'm glad you are being careful.

Camas Cool work history Camas! What was manufactured in that facility? Unfortunately, I think (I haven’t been tested) that I have experienced some hearing loss as well. I never used to wear ear plugs for saws, nail guns, or other power tools. The tile saws finally started to bother my ears. I looked up hearing safe levels, and I changed my all of my safety habits. Now I try to enforce them with my employees. So hopefully, they appreciate my efforts to preserve their health and well being.

Greetings Stevie, I am at a point that I am thinking about insulating the inside of my truck for the heat stand point primarily, since I do not have A/C. I am curious that the inside roof of your truck has a double layer of sheet metal. I am also interested in wrapping the exhaust pipe to keep that heat from entering the cab of the truck from below, especially the catalytic converter. I am also going to apply window tint film to keep as much sun/heat out of the truck to help with keeping it cooler. I still seem to have a spongy brake pedal. I have nearly replaced all the components on the brake system. Not the steel brake lines though.
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 4 жыл бұрын
J. R. Thompson Hi JR! Nice! I would definitely start with sound deadening the inside of the cab. They I would move to tinting. Those two things should drastically cut down on heat as well a noise. If you still want it cooler, then I would try shielding the exhaust. I can definitely say, you will love your cab after it is sound deadened. Good luck with the project!🤙

Did it make a big difference? Im thinking about doing this to my 85. The truck has a bedliner paint job which helped a little bit. People always call me when driving but i can never hear them do to road noise
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 4 жыл бұрын
Cole Rippeon The short answer is yes and you should definitely do it. However, the sound deadening route is a multi step process. I recommend staring with the floor and what little firewall you can access first. Once you cover the floor, I would tackle the doors and the back wall. Then you can sound deaden the cab ceiling. All I have left on my sound deadening crusade are a section of the back wall and the driver’s side door. However, now that the cab ceiling has been done it is much quieter over my head. If anything it has made sounds coming through firewall and forward parts of the floor more noticeable. This is good because the material is doing it’s job. Now I just need to add a thicker layer to the floor. Lol
