Great install video. Glad you’re liking the Deavers. One thing to add is that Deaver does offer custom leaf springs. If someone anticipates carrying more than 1,000lbs in the back just give Deaver a call and they can make a custom leaf pack based off the individual needs. They are great to work with.

i thought a tacoma can carry around 1000lbs anyway and the stage one increase it 300lbs up to around 1300lbs? right?

This video saved me from an agonizing leaf spring change. Made it easy. I have very limited mechanical skills, however this was pain stakingly long because i do have a 1/2 in torque gun, which is great, my smaller tools and pieces that make using that gun in diff spots are minimal so thats the kicker. Point is, i changed the upper control arms on my tacoma n i think if u can do that (sounds eady right? Go do it n tell me how long it took ya lol) i can do just about anything. That was damn near the biggest pia ever. Esp when someone shows ya effortlessly moving a body panel with a crow bar n ur like oh it doesn't need to move that much, fml. Anyway this is straight forward. The hardest part for me believe it or not was getting the 9 year old rear shocks off as i replaced mine too, n man were they a B. I tried diff vice grips on the top and under the bolt because as ur trying to loosen a deteriorated bolt, the shock is spinning (who the f invented this garbage like this). Whst worked for me, was a 14mm ratcheting box wrench and a pair of channel locks and i used a nice size c clamp to basically make vice grips but waaaaay better than vice grips. I clamped that sucker so tight n then u have a big handle to hold onto, its a win win. Worked amazing for anyone who doesn't have vice grips (dont even waste ur money, ive found they rarely work for anything, n only use those if ur replacing ur shock of course, otherwise no need to remove the top bolt at all. Sorry for the story but maybe it can help someone.

I used Toyota OEM bushings for my Dakar leafs for my 2015 Tacoma. Much quieter than the poly bushings. Good alternative to people who want a squeaky free leafs.

When people talk about dakars squeaking is it only the poly bushings that cause this do u know??or is it the speings themselves?? Ive heard whwn its cold they get very squeaky and its put me off from buying dakars
@Tacoexplorer
@Tacoexplorer 3 жыл бұрын
@@bengleckl1877 no that’s not the only reason. I went the extra mile and bought leaf liners. Before installing the leaf packs I lined all my leafs with leaf liners. 2 years later, zero noise from my leafs. I off-road a lot too with water crossings etc. oem bushings + leaf liners = zero noise. I highly recommend it.

Just installed a set stage 2 deavers today. I got that set because the bumper I had put on two weeks completely smashed the stock leafs on my Pro. To my suprise, the stage 2s gave me 4" of lift in the rear, even with all the extra weight. Granted, nothing has really settled yet, but I would definitely recommend the stage 2 set for people who have future plans for their ride that way you're ahead of the game. If you're not gonna have extra weight consistently, get the stage one anyway because the stock Tacoma leafs are absolutely weak. My rear bumper only weighed 90lbs and it flatened those leafs and gave me that stupid looking sag.

The ... only concern I'd have would be with the angle of the input to the rear diff. Every prep I've used before involved one-side to torque before touching the second side. I think all of those had the rear axle on jack stands, not tires for the final torque (likely lazy mode.) Otherwise, I'm doing pretty much this whole vid in a garage with no lift this weekend or next.

It should be mentioned that the OME Dakar leafs add a whopping 2.75" of lift, whereas the Deaver J66 only adds 1" to stock height. I do NOT need 2.75" of lift in the rear, nor do I want to pay $1,000 for the Deavers. Back to square one. EDIT: Atlas springs have what I need for $620! atlassuspension.com/index.html

Very well explained!!! I like how you include torque values. Looks very straight forward as you say. I was quoted $1000 for labour to install 4 leaf springs and 4 shocks on my 1988 Toyota Hilux (I have front and rear leaf springs with a SFA). Plus $3000 for a Dobinson lift kit. So $4000 total. Sounds ridiculous high to me. Is replacing leaf springs totally something that could be done as a DIY project?? Doesn’t look so difficult to me. What is your opinion on Old Man Emu vs. Dobinson leafs and shocks? Thanks!

Yes swingouts are about 40lb-50lb because they will be steel and bumper itself will be made from aluminum roughly 40-50lb as well so weight will be about 80lb-110lb is what I am expecting!

"Spring under conversion kit and after-market shackle required." What is this? I am looking to buy a pair of the Deaver Tacoma Leaf Packs. I need my 2017 TRD Offroad at stock height. DO I need a spring under conversion and shackle to install the Deaver Leaf Pack?

What is your opinion on using air bags versus leaf springs. Can you use a combination?

Great video on the install. @mateo - is there any reason you didn't keep the stage 2 and use bags with Daystar cradles so you can adjust for load?
