LOL - I've had a UAP AC Pro sitting pointing up on a shelf for about 5 or 6 years, works flawlessly throughout the entire house. I keep meaning to mount it somewhere centrally ... one day I'll get motivated enough to bother ;) Every room in my house still gets over 90% and everyone's streaming 4K Netflix, KZfaq, gaming etc all day fine. Those AC-Pro's are awesome for home use and high bandwidth usage. I still have a second one sitting in a drawer that I was going to deploy at the front of the house to improve signal quality, but I've never needed it. I keep it for when the working AC Pro eventually dies ... and given Ubiquiti's unreliable stock levels it will come in handy one day ;)

I got an ER which I've set up the same way, but on the router shelf in the basement (so pointing up covers the entirety of my 1 story house), except that the living room (opposite end of the house) doesn't seem to be getting any signal, to the point where I was sitting on my couch and my phone tried to connect to the 5G instead of the wifi.

They do work well in a side orientation if you place them correctly, I've deployed a few placed on an external wall pointing towards the front or side of the house and they have always worked great. I still use one on the back wall of my unit facing towards the front and it's always works great.

While they can work you probably would be better off with one of the in wall units which will spend more energy outward then the ceiling mounted ones

nice to hear. My cousin is about to help me configure my new unifi network this week...i'm in a 2 story house, going to top mount one upstairs in a central location, and we were thinking of putting a second in the garage on the exterior wall aimed back at the center of the house. Also doing a 3rd outdoor one wired to the back yard for coverage there

@@SpaceRexWill Problem is not everybody constructs the way US people do, in my country there are no dry wall celling, its mostly concrete and cement based, and usually people never plan having network lines run through before the house is finished, thus placing access point on celling's requires a more expose plastic channeling or a lot more craving/burrowing and re finishing the celling, while mounting on walls a lot of time is easier and still works fine, maybe not ideal, but good enough that no one disconnects nor complains.

Could you, at some point, walk us through what's is most optimum setting for U6-Pro to get the most throughput? I was getting slower speeds and when I contacted Ubiquity, they recommended to increase the 5GHz channel width. I was wondering if there are anymore optimization tweaks that I can do, besides the channel width that can increase the overall Performace.

I have been planning a video out on it. The problem is so much depends on your exact wifi environment
@UTubeSuhail

@@SpaceRexWill I totally understand. What might help is a series of steps like a check list or optimization steps. How to check if there is any interference, how to check what is the channel width and how to decide what is optimum. things like that. A general guide. But yes I understand is subjective, but at least having a direction of might help instead of nothing out there. Also, I appreciate all the work you are doing.

Dont forget Ubiquiti do sell wall mounted APs, also use the Ubiquiti design tool, takes the guessing game out of AP placement

I just wish they had an option for wall mounting that was not the outlet box. It seems like that for a lot of people would be so invasive

Would the Flex HD be good to keep on a table top instead of mounting this on a wall? My house isn't big, but would have a Dream Machine SE to a table top or wall mounted AP. Then upstairs, I'd have a Beacon HD.

The other thing is modern driers really should not be increasing the humidity of the area as all of the water should be extracted down the drain or as steam out your vent

I've been terminating all of my in-wall ethernet runs in Keystones at the user end, and a patch panel down by my router. I'm trying to figure out how best to install a Keystone next to the AP mounting bracket. It doesn't look like it was meant for it at ALL, and the two fixtures interfere.
@SpaceRexWill
@SpaceRexWill 9 ай бұрын
Yeah. Most terminations for AP’s are male ends to just plug straight in.

Why are you worried about a couple 1/4" holes from the drywall anchors when you use a 7/8" spade bit for the ethernet lmao
@spencerross8699
@spencerross8699 Жыл бұрын
Also drywall anchors are not hard to patch at all. Put a screw halfway in and either grab pliers and pull it out if it’s already damaged or take a hammer and keep harming it in the wall. Then come back with some spakle and your done. Would much rather the extra rigidity of the drywall anchors than some machine screws in drywall

Similar situation… single story but with a finished basement Where my “server room” resides). I built so I had wiring done while the house was going up. Hard to address design mistakes/omissions. Worse, I wired with CAT5 (just as CAT5e was being introduced) and I’m trying to figure best way to upgrade with CAT6.
