How to install water line on a refrigerator

This is the Video that takes you through the water filter I chose to filter the water for our ice maker.
• Installing an AO Smith...
It takes less than 30 minutes and can be done for under $30..
Our RV came with a Residential Refrigerator in the slide, we wanted to use the icemaker so we decided to tap into the PEX line in the bathroom. It's simple and cheap. It can be accomplished in an afternoon with only a few household tools.

One thing to add, id stay awah from the brass ferrule and use a plastic one with a brass sleve that goee into the end of the pipe to tighten the ferrule onto.

Easy to use but I’ve heard they are not the most reliable option. It’s been holding for about a year... so I guess they will do just fine! 😁

Awesome! May want to check out the stiffer blue water hose... I haven’t tried it yet but i would like to see how it compares to this clear bendable stuff. Might hold up better.

Never use a brass ferrule with plastic line. Also, you should've inserted a brass inner sleeve into that line to prevent crushing when tightening that nut. Other than that, good job.

you never want to use a compression fitting on a flexible line without a brass insert, you'll crush the line

Or it’ll last 3 years! 🤣. Honestly, I should’ve used a brass fitting.. but I guess I lucked out and it haven’t been an issue. Good advice though. Thanks!

I was trying to help a friend hook up his icemaker but the water line that it came with is attached to the fridge and the end that has a brass nut attached is smaller than 1/4 inch and wnt connect to the 1/4 in wall valve . Is this new and is there an adapter ? I cant find one anywhere .

I did mine yesterday, but no ice as of today. How long did it take for yours to start making? Is there anything you had to do to the icemaker itself to start working? I did turn it on.

it did take a few hours... it was probably 18-24 hours.. I did hear you should purge the line.. I didnt. But its working now and with the filter installed, it makes some amazing ice. maybe turn off the ice and turn it back on again. or if it has a "power ice" mode, try that. Good luck.

Yes, installed an AO Smith filter from Lowe’s.

My kitchen sink is across from where the refrigerator will go. Can this be done connecting it to a different waterline? Like the bathroom sink waterline?

I believe the newer models of Alliance have water in the slides. They just can’t hook it up for the customer. But as long as you have a water source near the refrigerator, you should be able to hook up a water line and filter. Filter HIGHLY recommended...😁👍

You can drill holes on cabinets or wherever you need to guide the line to the sink … that’s what I am doing

Great video. I'm in Australia and I'm no plumber either. Just bought a smart fridge like yours from Samsung and didn't realise i need to connect the water. In out your video you connected it to a blue pipe. Is that a different water pipe?

Hi Sansi! Yes, it’s a PEX pipe. Much like a copper plumbing. It’s just the cold water supply for the bathroom sink. I love PEX, so easy to work with. No more sweating copper pipes! 😁 Thanks for watching!

Wrong tubing used. You also should have used a plastic ferrule and crush sleeve. This line is also exposed, leaving it vulnerable for damage, and if that gets damaged that’s an endless leak.

I'm trying to repair a copper line going to a rubber line at the back of the fridge. Can I use a coupler from one to the other or will it be necessary to remove the copper line completely? ...

My water line has copper tubing can I change it to plastic ? And won’t plastic get mold with time?

I believe you can, I’m no plumber, but I’ve seen copper to PEX fittings. So I’m assuming you can. Also, I checked the tubing, it’s made for drinking water, haven’t seen any discoloration or mold. I’ve had it installed over a year. I’d suggest using a good filter that takes out all the bad stuff that could potentially cause mold, gross water problems. 😁👍 thanks for watching! Good luck!

Should be a standard 1/4” fitting. I’d just take a few good photos and visit a plumbing supply store… not Home Depot.. 😁

I believe I got it at Harbor Freight? Not entirely sure, I’ve had it for like 4 years... 😂. I would check Amazon. They should have a flexible drill extension. Thanks for watching. Much appreciated!

Do you need to unhook the filter? Like bypass the filter? Should be a fitting you can insert into the 2 lines you take off the filter? Or you can run a new line from the water source to the refrigerator. Take some photos and take them to your local lowes or Home Depot.. most stores have good knowledge on plumbing. Good luck! 😁👍

Please help the waterline is already connected to the fridge will not fit the connector that I bought that’s inside of the installation kit so what do I do now the connector that goes on to the existing water pipe or whatever fits screwed on perfectly but the other end that you put the other connector on to connect the waterline to the one that’s connected to the fridge it won’t fit

Sorry your having issues. I would take photos, and bring any connector you can to a plumbing store or Home Depot and see if they can give you some advice on which parts to purchase. Sorry I’m not much help. 😁

I don’t see what not. I believe it just needs a normal water supply. So the water at the washer should work great. 😁👍

Maybe it’s wrong but it’s been holding just fine for over 6 months.. 😁🤣🤣👍 So is it “wrong” ? This is a fairly low pressure system. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@FocusedontheRoad a metal ferrule on a plastic line usually leaks not at first but over time. It cuts into the plastic a little. If it’s no issues leave it alone for now.
