Kenny you’ve got a rocking head of hair still 👍😂. Glad you guys were able to do this yourselves, I have been wanting to hook my outdoor wood stove to my shop for heat for a few years, but the cost of the underground pipe has always kept me from doing it. Good information you guys are sharing here. Take care.

This was awesome. Love that you came up with a cheap alternative. We have been thinking of an outdoor wood stove for hot water and heat

We had to that was just too much for what it was. I’ll letcha know how this one works out for us, it’s a used one. We’re all electric now so I’m sure it’s the best move for us…electric went up 35% over last year and half.
@YogiHollowFarm
@YogiHollowFarm Жыл бұрын
@@AbundantAcresHomestead eeeewwww we are all electric also and replaced the wood stove with a pellet stove. It was a quick way to heat inexpensively in that moment…when we first moved in. All we have is pine here to burn. So now the outdoor wood stove would work with that
@AbundantAcresHomestead
@AbundantAcresHomestead Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you got it right going with pellets. We have an abundance of wood and with the 2 tornadoes that hit us this year we have a TON of it down

Every turn in a coil of tubing (or anything, for that matter) is a twist when you try to straighten it out. The heat exchanger for the furnace works just like the heater in your car. Water cools your engine, then the radiator (a heat exchanger) releases the heat to the air that's blowing through it as you drive. The heater does the same thing. There is a little "radiator" (heater core) inside the car that releases the heat to air inside the car, rather than outside the car like the engine radiator. The heat exchanger in your house system releases the heat in the hot water to the air that is being blown through it.

Since you have 2 layers of insulation, the air gaps that are between them will make the toal R-value more than 8, because it's the air spaces in the insulation that actually makes it insulate. It's probably not much of a difference, but every little bit helps!

@@AbundantAcresHomestead lol that PEX is crazy priced alone. I been searching for the best cheapest way to run the water out on the farm. PEX was not it by cheapest lol. Poor poor Kenny! Lol
@AbundantAcresHomestead
@AbundantAcresHomestead Жыл бұрын
It wasn’t cheap but definitely cheaper than the lines already done. How many feet do you have to go?
@CajunHydroponics
@CajunHydroponics Жыл бұрын
@@AbundantAcresHomestead ibam just running water line. The 1st main line will be about 200 feet. Then I have about another 200 just for the watering system for the blackberries. Then I will have to run other main lines for the different areas for fig trees and other fruit trees. Will probably end up with around 1000 feet. But I don't wanna be running hoses all over trying to water things. Rather have too many main lines than trying to run 200 feet of hoses lol

If you are putting that mess, in a trench, use a 2" PVC pipe. Run your cheap Chinese PEX inside that. Protect the PEX, insulate with free AIR and save a ton over what you spent.
@AbundantAcresHomestead
@AbundantAcresHomestead 6 ай бұрын
I could see that would have worked as well but we already had the drainage tile so to buy pvc would have added to the cost.

Why don't you use pipe insulation? Get the rubberized material for like HVAC.
@AbundantAcresHomestead

The aluminum material we wrapped is pipe insulation.
@OhMostBobulousOne
@OhMostBobulousOne Жыл бұрын
I know it's a little late now, but the foam pipe insulation that can be found at your local Lowes that comes in 6 foot lengths is probably a good way to go. I'd wrap it with that foil stuff on top of that, (the stuff you used on attempt 2) and duct tape it together. While doing all that, I might consider including an electrical supply at the same time, you may need it out there.
@AbundantAcresHomestead
@AbundantAcresHomestead Жыл бұрын
We looked at the foam pipe insulation first. I’m sure it would work but the cost to do both 80 foot runs…expensive. We did add an electric line to hook our pump and light up, we probably should’ve shown that in the video. We definitely had to run electric out to ours. All awesome advice!

Why is the boiler so far away from where the water will be used?
@AbundantAcresHomestead

How our house sits and the way the winds blow is why we chose the location. If we put it closer the ashes could land on our house and the smoke would definitely smoke us out (we open windows for fresh air, occasionally even through the winter). The only other option would've been our front yard.

What was your heat loss?
@AbundantAcresHomestead
@AbundantAcresHomestead 9 ай бұрын
It was 180 at the boiler and 176 at the house, so 4 degrees at just under 80 feet. We trenched 3 foot down and came up to 2 foot where it came into the crawlspace.

Hello and good afternoon the worst thing you can do is put your pipe in drain tile if water gets in it you will be heating the ground look for ants and green grass is a sign you are heating the grass in the winter time if you use thermopex you will save wood and your back and lay your Pex out in the sun on a hot day it will uncoil and lay flat
@AbundantAcresHomestead
@AbundantAcresHomestead Жыл бұрын
Thank you…thermopex wasn’t an option for us due to shipping confusion AND the outrageous expense $💸$. 80 feet would’ve cost more than we paid for the boiler. We have a TON of down trees so saving wood isn’t an issue for us. We had 2 tornadoes so there’s more wood than we could burn.
@rickjames6948
