Great video. The ONLY critique I have is that you told her to pack an "emergency bag" and hide it. Now, you went on to say "keys, ID, etc." but when people hear the term "emergency bag" they tend to feel "getaway bag" or "overnight bag." The issue is that abusive partners often keep an eye open for things like that and it's not uncommon for them to search the house for them. If she were to put together a bag with clothes and whatnot, and it was found, it places her at great risk of being beaten or killed. It's a much better idea to suggest she ask her parents to keep a bag of her things at their home. She could easily suggest that she is "donating" her and the children's used clothing to a charity that her parents support if she needs to come up with a story as to why her stuff is missing or why her parents took things from the house. Clearly, her best bet is to get away from him, but that can be a trigger for these men too, and it's not uncommon for highly abusive men to stalk and continue to victimize their wives even after they have left. So even though leaving seems like a simple and good option, it has the potential to place her and/or her children in greater damage, and needs to be done smartly!

Awesome video Jasmine! I work with clients that's battling troubled behavior. I created a curriculum that helps them identify syndromes that they might not necessarily know they possess or try to justify. It also helps them recognize troubled behavior in others. I love your approach, and I always advise counselors, social workers, and other professional who work to help others, to be very much empathetic with their clients. If one can't connect with the client by using their own personal stories it's hard to gain their trust. It doesn't have to be the same kind of abuse but somewhat relatable and how they overcame the problem. Again; Awesome video!

@@pinkk_peaches6059 Hi I enjoy this educational path very much that the course last year has given me (not working within the profession yet but I’ll soon be doing work-placement :D). From continuing that path from a cert III to now doing a diploma. From almost 2 years worth of studying this within TAFE I can say that this course not only gives you an awareness on clientele engagement like the legal and ethical requirement. But that path also maintains such a high regard towards personal reflection and growth so we are always becoming better versions of ourselves including in our own practice. I like a professionalism that’s self inclusive for self care in Mental health (though I can’t advocate for real life industries just what I’m taught within TAFE) I’m sorry that I can’t give you much of an insight in the professionalism when I’m only just a student but I hope this answers your question :)

Hello! I really enjoyed watching this role-playing video. Thanks for the video! I'll be starting my MSW from next year in Melbourne. I have a few questions to ask if you don't mind. I am interested in child welfare. I guess there are government jobs and non-government jobs. Is the government job more competitive to get and also complicated to do? Also, are mental health and counselling considered as same? To be a mental health therapist or counsellor, do I have to study extra clinical course after MSW?

@NicieWilliams
@NicieWilliams 6 жыл бұрын
Your client husband sounds like a narcissist..lol I love how you illustrated self determination also. You did not tell her she needs to leave her partner but gave support, direction and information. That can be a challenge on us social workers ( social service workers) emotionally and mentally if the assessment causes counter-transferance. You must experience clients not coming back or not following up with appointments; in your role do you follow up with the person or the person given the case. I'm curious if the steps are the same in the states.
@JasmineAmaa
@JasmineAmaa 6 жыл бұрын
Vtomorra haha most perpetrators of violence are narcissistic. Oh yhh self determination is super important when working with survivors of domestic violence. Yh i will usually give about a week to check in if i have not heard from clients. This can depend on the severity of what’s happening and my capacity or client work load at the time. Is that similar to how things r done in the US? Xx
