In order to work safely under the car or with the tires removed, the car has to be jacked up and supported properly. It's an essential part of any car DIYer or enthusiast.
This vehicle is almost entirely covered in plastic cover under the front and middle portion of the car. It can't be jacked up from the center of the car either in front or from the back of the car like some car and most old cars.
This video shows how one can jack or lift up the front or rear size of the car one corner at a time. It shows where the jack needs to be positioned to lift the car and where the stands can be placed.
Please note:
This video is for illustration on how I have done this. I am not an expert or a professional at this. The purpose of this video is to promote learning something new and one way of doing this. Actually putting the jack head on the metal ridge is not a good idea. Look at how the Mazda jack fits on the jack point and you will see that the metal ridge is more of a guide. The lifting contact area is behind the ridge towards the chassis middle. The ridge is just so it fits into the slot the Mazda jack has and if you use a floor jack it should have a jack pad which have a slot cut in to mate with the ridge. You risk bending the ridge since it is really not made to support all that weight. If it colapses while on a jack or jack stand it could be ugly. Position the Mazda jack and it will all make sense.

the jack seat is slit and weight is transferred from either side of the rib as you mentioned. this works just fine as i've showed. some have bent some overtime, but never had an issue arise from it bending.

@ExpVet I agree. I used to jack up my CX 3 this way using a floor jack but then I notice that the OEM jack that came with the car has an opening where the ridge would slide down and NOT touching the base. So I assumed that the weight of the car should be resting behind the ridge.

Thank you for your comment regarding the floor jack pad. Who knew? Until I can find a pad, I will just use the Mazda jack.

Thanks for vid. I tried several times to lift my cx-9 and could not see where to locate the stand.

Any other suggestions for jack stand locations when lifting up the front? I recently had to get a new wishbone fitted, I suspect this could have been damaged when i lifted it and put a stand under there a few months back

the metal housing is what spreads to the load to the outside edges of the metal housing. won't be an issue.

iit's a non issue. hasn't bend yet after all these years. i've done it many cars. even mechanics do this...it's been done to my car at a shop. yes, the do setll a u shaped item you can get to install on your jack when lifting.

@footprintsinconc yeah gets done by bad mechanics. Do that to you own vehicle ok, but no matter how little I'd never damage a customers car on a import area of the chassis (I know it's not crucial the pinch weld itself just bending some, but if it's crushed up completely then any future impacts to that spot could potentially damage the floor above it instead of the pinch weld possibly crushing instead and taking the force and the body above not getting damaged possibly) when there is the proper tools and equipment available to do it right!
