@@JohnHighmerSmith Thanks for watching! I totally agree that we are in need of a jack stand upgrade. I'm going to get the ones specifically for the pinch seam. I totally know what you mean about the Motordyne guy, he came after me (several videos...) saying the way we prop of vehicles is completely wrong and the side ways jack stand is the best way.... I hope no one gets injured from doing it that way. The good news is, I'll be debuting the beginning of our custom house build which will have a 1200 sq ft shop and a 4 point hoist to do videos! @iandalonso
@iandalonso 7 жыл бұрын
I can't find the exact one that I bought, but if you search for pinch weld jack adapters on amazon they're pretty much all just a hockey puck with a groove in it. I have some that are made of polyurethane, but the rubber ones seem ok too. I normally use the adapter just to raise the car up and then place my jack stand underneath. The adapters that I got were also a little bit too short to fully envelop the pinch seam, but the weight of the car on the adapter mold it enough so that it fits. The polyurethane seems malleable enough to bend under stress, but not break.
@AnthonyJ350
@AnthonyJ350 7 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh I know what you're talking about. I'm still trying to find something to go on the pinch seam and use a jack stand with it. I would use the pinch seam more if I could do that because that's what it's designed for. Try using the jack point at the front of the car and let me know how it goes. I recheck several times when I lift from there to make sure I'm not on something else.

@@AnthonyJ350 I cut some wood, works really well but I have jack stands with full flat top (little bends up in the end but I can fit a 2x4 in it no prob) and cut a little divot for the rail and boom, it's good be careful where you set it though because the rocker panel bit that hangs over the underside to hold on ends right around the pinch weld jack/stand point so if you put the wood/puck/amazon adapter/supersweet Kent More SPX SST No. LM4519-0000 (seriously if you find that lemme know that would be so cool to have) then you just be careful bc I think we could smush the sideskirt rocker panel bit too much

Would you recommend jacking and working on one end at a time or getting the car jacked all the way up? A little nervous about the jack slipping off the diff. Need to change my shocks all around and haven't jacked a car before. A little nervous about hurting my car or myself
@AnthonyJ350

You can do the front end, then the back end separately. Make sure the ground is level and secure the wheels. When the back end is up nothing is preventing the front wheel from rolling but your blocks. Also put a wheel under the car for extra cribbing. I would have some experienced with you to help you out and supervise.

Looks like I need to make a new video. I have the Nismo diff cover and you are supposed to jack it up from the fins, they will not break. Interesting, I never put my jack stands on the unibody frame, I always put mine under the rocker panels and you have the stands turned the wrong way. When you turn them that way, yes you do need the rubber covers.

My first car was a 240sx, an s13. I had that before the G35. The 240sx was used when I bought it. Where am I going with this? The person who had it before me would jack the car up on the unibody part, same area you are, but he was lifting the car 1 side at a time. Unlike you who are doing it in the middle upfront and the back, which is better, I agree. I always jack up from the rocker panels and here is why. The 240sx was in Ohio, so it saw snow and salt. From the previous owner, they had smashed in the area of the unidbody by lifting it there with no rubber pad. Rust started. Then it got so bad, it was coming up through the floor. I had to have my whole unibody cut out and re-welded. Plus it is harder to get the the unibody part of the car anyway than the rocker panels. I"m looking at the service manual now. I do not think you are supposed to jack on the unibody part and I'm correct. It shows the rocker panels as jack points, the diff and in the center in the front. You are not supposed to jack up on the unibody frame. Maybe holding it with jackstands is ok, but I have never done it. 12 years of jacking up my G too, I've never touched the unibody frame with jackstands or a jack. I did my clutch on my back too.

I want to use the pinch seem but I'm still trying to find the jack adapters the manual suggests to use. My current jack stands stick out too much on the sides and will be in the floor before it touches the pinch seem. I've also see crazy jack stands on Jay Leno's garage that I would totally use. www.pinterest.com/pin/619033911252017638/

Again, like I said you have the jack stands turned the wrong direction. All you need is a rubber pad on the jack, to jack up on the pinch seam. You do not need rubber pads on the jack stands, if you use them the correct way. I made a proper video on how to jack up your car correctly, if you want to see. I referenced you in the video.

I use pucks, I did cut a small channel in them for the pinch seam to sit in... I also use a third on the Jack, probably not necessary, but a bit softer on the car. Especially on the front Jack point, it sits slightly shy of the bracing and the bracing tends to sit on the edges of the Jack platform without the puck
