In this video I will be showing you how I jewel a rifle bolt. I will explain what jeweling is and what you'll need to get the job done.

Hi Nick! I'm also in SDI and currently in FTT 201. This reminds me a lot about some stuff I did years ago and it's bringing back memories! These classes are incredible and I highly recommend SDI for anyone wanting to get into gunsmithing or drones (I've also flown those before the FAA got involved). How's your current classes going?

I love how you carefully explain to keep things in line so it's a uniform pattern across the entire bolt. Have you ever done a criss-crossing pattern? I'm interested in how that would look and function.

One of the best demonstrations of jeweling a bolt I seen, so complete from start to finish even on the jig. Guess you put the end of the bolt in the firing pine hole and the other in the bolt that you made in the other end. Time to put my mill to work and get some .33/40's bolts done, I know, the complete ones with matching S/N aren't going to be jeweled. Thank you so much. One Q, when you reverse the bolt to get the part that stops you from getting the jeweling done from bolt interference , and reverse the bolt are you turning the drill in the same direction? Everything is always turning in clockwise direction even after you reverse the bolt in the jig and 400 grit clover? I see they have grit to 1000 what one did you use ? Great job my friend👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I'm sorry for not going into detail. To answer your questions.....I do indeed keep everything goin in the same direction. The rows of swirl markings overlap somewhat, and they all go clockwise.

Great Video, well explained. You need a couple of more lights so your not sitting in shadow. With the cost of steel if someone wants to duplicate this their best bet might be to buy an old bed frame at a second hand store for angle iron.

I think bed frame rails are probably too thin. This was some metal I had laying around, and I already had an idea of what I wanted to make.

I'm looking into doing the same thing on my 98 that I just put a new 30-06 barrel on because the 8MM was not grouping well past 100 yards...I was holding off for a while but it I got my biggest buck last year at 130 yards and just about shot over top of him so it was the first and last buck taken with the MAUSER... But now I'm super excited about the new set up I've built. Thanks for taking the time, I will start looking into building a jig.

I'm considering doing a vz24 from 8mm to 30-06 did you have to modify anything, it's a standard large ring Mauser 30-06 seems a little long

I once considered starting a small gunsmithing shop, but other things got in the way. Now that I am approaching my retirement years, I am considering doing it again. If you have a rifle bolt in mind for this process, go to my home page and drop me an email.

Clover finer grit is 240 grit, Wheeler fine grit is 600 grit, which do you recommend?
