I tried your technique with no success. however I didn't anchor and was drifting slowly maybe that was the reason. but had not bite for about 45 minutes.

Can you start telling us what lakes you are fishing at in the video description? It would be very helpful for us local guys as we could try your techniques in the same lakes. Keep the great video coming!

Hey rod, great vid! I know this doesn't have much to do with the video but, I heard there is a big pink run in the fraser valley this year, I was just wondering when they come through and where to target them.

jimmy mcaley First two weeks of September. One way to find out when the fish arrive is by following our Facebook page since updates will be posted. There are also several articles on our website regarding this fishery. Also a few videos in this channel, simply type in "pink salmon" and do a search. Good luck.

Marcus moeller Nice. I can't comment too much about fishing for Atlantic salmon in Sweden since I have never done it before. It is quite different to how we would fish for Pacific salmon on the West Coast of North America.

ah missed that fish on the baited hook! try a C-hook and set the drag a little tighter than usual, sometimes the fish will set the hook by themselves when they take the bait and it'll be right at the corner of its mouth. i've a question about the sounder, can it differentiate fish by size?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 9 жыл бұрын
jingqk The sounder's beeps have three different sounds signally the "size" of the fish, or school. The regular beep detects pretty small movements, even the small spoon I am jigging can set it off. I don't really use it to identify the size of the fish, but more for the amount of fish/frequency of the beeps.

Have you ever, or heard of, anyone hooking a dodger up to a jigging or dropshot set up? I am thinking about doing it for deep water lake trout and kokanee jigging.
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's pretty commonly done for ice fishing actually, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for deep water jigging in the summer.

So to jig for the kokanee. You motor around the water tell you find a school then start jigging?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 3 жыл бұрын
That’s correct. I usually spend a bit of time going around until I mark a couple of fish. I would then anchor and hope that more fish would circle back frequently. They often do. If nothing happens in an hour, then I make a move.

I went kokanee fishing last Sunday for the first time. We just trolled. Had 6 taken downs and none to the boat. Jigg sounds like it possibly could be more productive.

What type of rod. line and reel did you use in the video
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 9 жыл бұрын
Ross McArthur The rod is a 6' long spinning rod rated 1 to 4lb. The spinning reel is a Shimano Stradic CI4+ 1000. Any 1000 size reel works well, don't need a high end one. The reel is spooled with PowerPro 10lb test braided line, with around 6' of 4lb test Maxima Ultragreen mono line tied to the end before the spoon is tied on.

You should do a video with a friend as a challenge video. Each have $30 and have to buy a rod, reel, and tackle. then who ever catches the most fish with their $30 gear wins. Would be nice to see that you can still fish with budget gear. :)

@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 9 жыл бұрын
Gracey DeLuca I don't see why not. There are more effective way to fish for trout, like casting and retrieving a lure into shallow spots where they can be seen feeding, but when it gets too hot or too cold, jigging for them blindly should work just fine.

Whats the best month for kokanee fishing?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 4 жыл бұрын
Kokanee generally spawn in September so the best time to target them is July and August when fish are at their peak size. With that said, they can be caught throughout the entire year by using a variety techniques, from ice fishing in the winter, to fly fishing with chironomid patterns in the spring, to trolling in the summer months.
@fishotherapyph

I think the reason your channel isn’t super huge like some of the others is because you don’t do funny or crazy stuff you usually just show us the best or most conventional way to catch fish. If you did something like catching a chinook on a bass lure or on a trout rod or something crazy like that you would attract more people. But then again your not about being a huge channel you more about being informative, and then you also have to consider your sponsors, they probably influence the way your videos are presented. Correct me if I am wrong or tell me if I’m right please, would love a response!
