Nice job Stu. I have never used K-rend and was surprised when you said it was breathable, seeing as the set is caused by the added cement it can't be all that breathable because of the cement. I really like the metal scratch float, I use them a lot they leave a nice finish and are also good at keying up undercoats and flattening area's, taking off the high spots and snots etc too. All the best.

In the country I'm in, you normally do the basecoat with a cement-based adhesive (like tile adhesive) which costs less than 5 euros a bag. Then the top coat is done with a coloured silicone render, which you can also get premixed (which can cost 50 euros for a 25kg tub).

Nice job but why dont you use a H rule.. to rule off? It lets the air in and is very accurate in getting the surface level and true. You use a H rule when it is dry just before you scratch it. Youll notice it when the sunlight hits it. To many people use the specialized renders but dont rule off to specification. Refere to the manufacture.
