How to Keep Water from Pooling on Your Canopy - the Pool Noodle Trick

When water pools in the corners of your canopy it can potentially cause the frame to buckle, or release a waterfall off the edge that saturates people and belongings underneath. Some gazebos/canopies have built in anti-ponding mechanisms, however the vast majority don't. In this video I show you how to use the humble pool noodle to stop water water pooling on your canopy.

You can also simply tie string or wire around the mid-point of the 4 canopy “rafters” directly below the mid section joints. Pulled taut it prevents pooling in addition to giving some extra rigidity to the roof.

Good advice, but I think they should restructure the canopy.This is a major problem everyone is facing

Thank you for this! I've had a canopy for years on our back deck & I've had to purchase new ones ever so often due to weather degradation but I've never known about the pool noodles! Here all this time, I've used hands, arms, brooms & of course, always got drenched! Hahaha! So thank you! I have a couple pool noodles in the shed so I know exactly what I'm going to do with them!

I’ve never had this issue in the corner it’s in between the corners, tried a lot of things.

I have a gazebo with garment holes and plenty of pool noodles on hand...not sure this will work my structure but , I'll give this a try. I finally resolved the problem last year by pulling the canvas tight in the pooling areas and placing clamps to the outside to keep it tight. Worked perfectly even through the Florida thunderstorms .

Had a freak sleet storm late one summer out of the blue, it weighed my gazebo canopy down to where it broke under the weight. I was at work and by the time I got home it was too late. Not sure if this would have helped but I sure would've have tried it.

Escape Domain: Thanks for the video. I think it would have been more effective for you demonstrate the use of the pool noodle tip in a corner that didn't already have the anti-ponding mechanism. As it is, in your demonstration it would have made more sense to put the noodle above the mechanism to demonstrate tension, regardless, combining them on the same corner can be confusing for many viewers.

I had one o this gazebo and it collapsed under the rain, the cover gets loose in no time and creates huge pools I guess the cover is very poor material

Help! Requesting advice from anyone who has a canopy tent with grommeted drain holes. Mine has them and I'm trying to construct some sort of pvc/vinyl tubing "downspouts" so that water draining through these goes right back outside the tent instead of directly onto the tent floor. Any advice or experience with this?

Drainholes in a waterproof canopy totally defeat the object of the canopy! I purchased a canopy without being warned of the drain holes. Attempting to block them with waterproof tape and silicone sealant failed and so I had to resort to purchasing a replacement white tarpaulin. My canopy was not a pyramidal roofed gazebo otherwise the tarp would not have been an option.
