This is so great - you almost make me want to cut my own mats! Barring that, I recommend Matboard & More for precut mats at very good prices. Their turnaround time is fast, and the double mats are always perfectly cut and aligned. If you tend to paint the same sizes most of the time, you can save a lot of money buying in bulk (10 or more). Probably not as much as cutting the mats yourself, though. Frame Destination has nonglare/UV Acrylite (conservation grade plexi) for a good price if you buy several pieces at a time. American Frame also has a handy dust cover trimmer that makes fast work of trimming paper backing evenly. Two fast swipes along each side, and you're done. Great video as always - thank you!

Haha! Thanks for the matting and framing ideas! I hadn't heard of either before. I have heard of a dust cover trimmer. I will have to look for it next time I am ordering frames from American Frame.

Informative video. I look for Matt on Craigslist. Sometimes I get lucky. I’ll troll thrift shops for good frames. Sometimes you can recycle the Matt. For smaller pieces I’ll stretch my paper on a wood frame, then wax. Always a way to save a buck.😎💕

Ah, yes Craigslist and thrift shops can be good places to find framing materials.

I am interested in seeing how to make a watercolor painting in a frame with glass look like it’s floating. Suspended off the backer board with deckled edge showing. I love this look!

Hi Debra, I have not ever floated a painting when framing. If I find any information on it. I might add this to my video list.

Could you please explain what is the problem with the painting touching the glass? I've never heard that before...
@lorrainewatry_watercolors

It is my understanding that in more humid climates, moisture could get between the glass and watercolor and cause the watercolor paint to smear or fade. Also, there is a chance the paper could get stuck to the glass.

Thanks for this really informative video, when you use the Krylon UV archival spray, do you do it all in one go or do you do extra coat after ?
@lorrainewatry_watercolors
@lorrainewatry_watercolors Жыл бұрын
I do about 4 to 8 light coats of the Krylon spray. I rotate my painting in between each coat so that I make sure I cover everything.

Thanks for the videos, Lorraine! I have just started painting using 1/2 Imperial (15" x 22") and am confused on what size frame "with" mat opening to use? 18 x 24 with a mat opening of 13.5 x 19.5? 22 x 28 with a mat opening of 14.5 x 20.5? If I can keep it a standard I will be able to save money. Thank you!

I would not use a mat and frame that small. I think the painting needs a little more room between the opening and frame. I have my painting under the mat by 1/4" all the way around. So that would reduce the opening/viewable area of the painting to 14 1/2" x 21 1/2". I think a mat that is 2 3/4" all the way around will give you a frame size of 20"x27". I hope this helps.
