As a friend suggested that owns a 43 foot, 250,000.00 Class A that even too had issues with cooling his unit. I painted my (Black) AC unit on roof (White) It made a world of difference. While the black may look better, it also attracts too much heat from the sun, making it harder to cool. Just make sure you remove the casing before painting. You do not want to paint the inside fins and hardware.

That's a great suggestion Chris. Thanks for mentioning it. I have always wondered why the AC manufacturers would make a black cover for a roof AC knowing that it attracts heat.

The key with Reflectix---have 1 in air gap--do not let it touch the window, or it just conducts heat--KEEP SEPARATION...

Our motorhome is insulated better than our 1926 built home. I think Magne Shades are money well spent for motorhome owners. Here's a tip, run the AC temp lower at night to cool down the walls as well. That gives you a jump at keeping it cool longer into the heat of the day.

The best tip I've found is to have a custom rv build done. Spray foam insulation is way better than fiberglass. And add radiant barrier wrapping everywhere. Double pane windows. And Sun shade awnings on all 4 sides not the crazy 6-8 foot ones try 10 -12 foot custom ones

Yes, custom building an RV from the ground up with high insulation factors would be a good thing to do if you can afford it. Thanks for sharing that idea.

Wish I had seen this vid before I did my own thing. I put gigantic tarps outside the sunny parts of my rv and the temp inside reduced DRAMATICALLY. Prior, the temp outside was 91 and so was the temp inside, despite using full capacity AC. After the tarps, the temp dropped between 12 - 15 degrees. I was satisfied with that but I'm thinking next year I'll be implementing your ideas. Thank you for sharing.

I have seen tarps being used for RV cooling too. Especially while I was in Arizona during hotter weather. Actually, it 's a very effective technique. You are essentially providing your own shade. But maybe some of the suggestions in this video may help make the tarps less necessary. Thanks for watching and commenting!

We have used the camping reflective blanket and suction cups to the front windshield. It really made a difference. We also found a Twin Titanium necessary to help exhaust the refrigerator. It is very quite and works great. We simply used zip ties and it stays put just fine. It make a great difference in keeping the refrigerator working in 102 degree heat.

Hi Vicki. I love that reflective pad for the windshield too. It really keeps the heat out in our Class A when we are facing the sun in the summer. I'll be adding a windshield solar cover pretty soon and that will probably lessen the need for the reflective pad. But we'll see. And having a strong fan to keep air moving behind your fridge is one of the best things you can do to keep your fridge and freezer cold. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

@@favierex Sorry I can't help much with that issue without being there to troubleshoot it. It sounds like it may be time to call an RV tech in to look at it though. Summer is starting to heat up so I hope you get the problem resolved soon.

I was camping in our new Ozark 1650bh last week. The window over the table is large and let in lots of heat along with lots of light. I want the light but not the heat. I put emergency blanket over the window, it cut heat by about 20 degrees but still let in the light. I am in the process of making curtains and will include emergency blanket as one of my layers of curtain.

I emailed reflectix after seeing some comments when we first bought our current 5th wheel saying they reflectix could cause window damage or breakage on RV windows (I didn’t ask about windshields). They replied to not use it on RV windows, it’s not meant for that. 🤷‍♀️
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 4 жыл бұрын
I have never heard of window damage from Reflectix Amy. There is a lot of misinformation out there and I wouldn't trust everything that you hear. A lot of RVers have strong opinions about many things. But it doesn't mean they are always right. We use Reflectix on windows and other areas and have never had any problems, but that is just our own experience.

How would you recommend setting up a portable ac unit in an rv? Is it possible to drive with the roof ac and a portable ac on a generator while driving down the road? The great debate with two ac's...30 amp vs 50 amp
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon. When I was using mine, we had an A/C unit that was not working. So we just plugged the portable A/C into a wall switch and it was fine since we were on shore power the whole time and we have a 50 amp service. But you also have to have the unit close to a window so that you can vent the exhaust outside the RV. If plugging into a wall outlet is too much for the electrical system and overloads it (for instance if you are on a 30 amp line), then I would see if there is a 120 volt plug on the campsite pole (this is very common) and run an extension cord to it to operate the second A/C unit. And I don't see the need for the portable unit while traveling as long as you have one functioning RV A/C and your dash A/C is operating like it should. In most cases you can run the generator while traveling and it will power your RV A/C. I hope that helps.

Ten great tips Duane! Would a dehumidifier help cool the RV if you are in a humid environment? Thanks SAFE TRAVELS
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron. Glad you enjoyed the video. Actually a dehumidifier does not lower the temperature in the RV. It only makes it feel cooler by removing the moisture. So if you are in a humid area like Florida, it won't physically affect the temperature but you will feel a lot less sticky inside. And a dehumidifier also helps combat the formation of mold inside your rig in areas of high humidity too. I hope that helps.

Would it be more advantageous to stay cool if you use reflective foil on the outside windows of your motorhome instead of inside?
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 4 жыл бұрын
It could be a good idea I suppose, but most RVers I know of use Reflectix inside because it's much easier to keep it in place on the inside. But if it's attached properly outside it could be a good solution Ronald.
