I bought a new 2018 Winnebago Micro Minnie. Within the first 3 years, it had over 80 problems including a leaking roof, bad toilet, broken dinette, windows that won't shut, a faulty stove that caused a fire, and a long list of other things. You are WAY better off buying a bus or cargo trailer and paying a professional to convert it. Even if the quality is mediocre, it will be MUCH better than anything you can buy.

I'm sorry to hear about all of the problems you had with your RV. But that is not an experience shared by most RV buyers and especially by those who purchase a Winnebago. And if most RV buyers would follow my advice and get a thorough RV inspection before they buy an RV and take it home, the vast majority of problems with new RVs would be found and fixed before they ever take it out on the first camping trip.

Greatly appreciated your channel. Very valuable information and detailed presentations!!! Will tropical-cool seal over older/compromised sealants to stop a current leak? We have recent water intrusion likely from a seem. Would you recommend using the Eturnabond tape over seams first?

If you already have a sealant failure on a joint that is allowing water intrusion, I would personally recommend removing the old sealant and putting down some fresh sealant first. At that point you can decide whether you wish to cover the sealant with TropiCool or Eternabond or both.

Good question. And the answer is yes. That actually happens a lot that. Some sellers will hire an RV inspector as a third party confirmation that their RV is in very good shape. Then they can use the inspector' s report to be able to get top dollar for the sale of their RV.

@RVInspectionAndCare

I think that RV quality took a big hit back when the economy went off the rails in 2008. In fact, many RV manufacturers couldn't survive the downturn. Even some very good RV builders went by the wayside and the others cheapened up their materials and processes to lower prices and keep selling. After that, there was a slight improvement in quality overall as time went on in the next 10 years or so, but Covid and it's effects were disastrous for RV build quality and customer support as well. And the industry is just now starting to get back on their feet from the pandemic's effects. At least that's how I see it.

I, respectfully, disagree with you. While you named three well known manufacturers, you failed to point out that MOST manufacturers have poor Quality Control. I would argue Grech, Embassy, or Advanced RV far exceed quality standards of Airstream (Thor), Winnebago, or Entegra. Without the quality control, it’s just Lipstick on a Pig and you’ll end up living in the RV Service Bay!

@RVInspectionAndCare 7 күн бұрын
I don't mind anyone disagreeing with me in a respectful and polite way. You are entitled to your opinion. Of course, the brands you mentioned are more low production manufacturers. And that's one of the reasons I didn't include them in this video as they are harder to find for the average RV buyer. And my personal new RV inspections show that quality control is definitely improving at this point among the higher production builders now that Covid is rapidly disappearing in the rear view mirror. And one final point. I actually did address the quality control issue when I recommended using a certified RV inspector to provide a thorough report on the condition of even new Class Bs before taking ownership of them.

Great tips and video. Friends of ours took their travel trailer from IL out west to Utah along with another couple with their camper. Our friends were going down the interstate when someone in a car had flagged them down. Their camper had caught on fire. They were able to get pulled over, grab some clothes, money and medicine before the camper was completely engulfed in flames 🔥, they suffered a complete loss. They had to get a U-Haul. Just an update that I had found out today. I guess that they were thinking that it was caused by a refrigerator leak? Freon is flammable I guess. They pulled over and quickly unhitched out of fear of the LP exploding. Luckily for them they were by a larger city and the fire department quickly responded. So everything that is salvageable is being hauled in a U-Haul as they finish up their 2 week vacation. And yes. Fortunately everyone is ok.

I haven't had a lot of personal experience it it myself. And what I have heard and seen so far indicates that a lot of people are happy with the swap.

What do you think about the tiffyn Wayfarer cargo capacity problem. With nothing extra you only can carry 100 pound.
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 12 күн бұрын
A lot of Class B+ RVs have a smallish cargo capacity issue. But since there is no problem with them towing a trailer behind the RV, that allows for plenty of cargo storage in the trailer. And the RVs are small enough that you don't need another vehicle for short trips around town or errands anyway.
@javiergonzalez6920
@javiergonzalez6920 12 күн бұрын
But it is true that if you pass the load capacity it's a safty and security low issue to travel. Also bad for the structure. I love the tiffin wayfare its beautiful. I have a question for you. My fiance and I are looking at getting an rv, mainly looking at 2000-2008. I'm concerned about the powertrain reliability, the three main platforms I'm seeing is the 8.1 chevy w/ Allison transmission, the Triton v10, and we're also looking at a couple late 90's diesels with the 5.9 Cummins and Allison transmission. There is one that we like that has a caterpillar engine on a spartan chassis. Do you have an opinion on which platform is the most reliable? I'm leaning towards the diesel, but if I go with gas, is the Chevy or Ford better?
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 13 күн бұрын
There are a lot of advantages of having a diesel engine and drivetrain in your RV. And most Caterpillar engines mated with Allison transmissions tend to be pretty reliable and that setup is made for lasting a long time too. But when you have a repair that must be made, and especially if it is a major repair, it can be incredibly expensive. So keep that in mind. A lot of RVers loved the Workhorse chassis with the Chevy engine and it's too bad they don't still compete with the Ford chassis and engine now. Both of those gas powered engines tend to be very reliable overall, but if I had to choose, I would say that the Workhorse chassis with the Chevy engine might come out a little better in my opinion. But whatever you choose, be sure to get a fluid analysis done on any engine that old to find out if there are any hidden issues that could surprise you. I hope that helps.

We had we believe our motherboard go out on our hot water tank, which is usually for the gas and electric. It is the gas that no longer wants to work. It will not ignite. We are unsure on which motherboard to purchase without having to go to a RV dealer who will definitely try to make as much money off of us as they can. Do you have any recommendations of places we could go to for these parts? We didn’t think that we were going to need to buy this motherboard because the electric was working just fine. But with these hot days in Illinois and running our air conditioner, it would’ve been really nice to be able to have hot water rather than turning off the air conditioner to run the hot water tank because it was going to have to use the electric only. I look forward to watching more of your videos as I continue to learn about being an RV person myself.
