Where i work we deal in Key blanks and Accessories along with the cutting machines. I don't get to spend a lot of time studying the inner workings of locks, so this video has been fascinating, Now i get how it works and your special bit of paper is very handy. IL be sure to do something Practical with this information, IL be stripping down one of our test locks as soon as i'm back in work to have a look.

Good video, showed me exactly what i needed. I have a really nice mortice/lever lock there i want to re-key. This helped me without any BS. Directly to the point. Thanks Chris.

@@chrisevanslockpicking9241 My pleasure. By using your video i managed to re-key a motice/lever i had laying spare. Well, technically i keyed alike it with another. I had old motice/levers laying around so stripped the parts out of those. That would have easily cost £120 (at least) if i took that in and told them i wanted the lock to work with said key. I was going to call for a quote just out of interest lol... I should actually, just out of pure curiosity. Anyway, if i do, ill let you know ;) Again, thank you for your video and your help, Chris.

Thank you soooo much Chris. :0) This video is totally amazing and was really worth the wait and it contains all the information not easily found and puts it all in 1 place and explains everything extremely well. I love watching your videos and how you explain things in a way that makes sense. I have a few books on locksmithing, mainly on American locksmithing as British locksmithing books are much harder to find and I couldn’t find any of that information in any of them but it is an essential skill for anybody who has to take lever mortise locks apart. :0)

Effing amazing, real eye-opener, thanks for sharing your knowledge mate, I’m gonna try this on my mums front door (she got dementia, can’t find the key anywhere), new lock would cost around £25, really don’t want to spend more money especially as the lock is perfectly fine Quick questions: (1) can I use a 3 lever key in 5 lever lock (and vice versa) and (2) can I get a key cut just from the order of levers in the lock eg. can I go to a key-cutter and just give him the lever number sequence 53357 for a replacement key?

Beautiful explained, But Chris let's say I'm to much of a dummy to make this chart. Is there another way to pin up a lever lock. Let me explain, I took apart my lock to fix a problem,and of course I mixed up the pinning order. Now this lock has a lot of in between spacers(?) If that is the right terminology. Don't know where what goes now. I'm thinking ì can use the key to align the order of pins,and spacers. Is this a lame way of thinking. Have it all in pieces in a bow. Awaiting instructions. Big smile. Thank you brother CHEERS
@chrisevanslockpicking92414 жыл бұрын
I can do a video on that for you mate. Spacers go in between each lever so when putting them back in you would have lever 5, the first one you put in, then a spacer, then lever 4 and a spacer all the way to lever 1 and when you have everything back in, you should have a spacer at the front of the lock, then one between each other lever. I will get that put in a video for you though 👍🏻
@thumperlockpicking92694 жыл бұрын
@@chrisevanslockpicking9241 Yea thank you. I thought there were two spacers in more then one spot, because there's a shit loud.
