I can completly agree with this!Everytime I am nervous or shy to do something I start overthinking and when I overthink I end up not doing it at all,so the best way to overcome this,is by facing the problem head on,no overthink no nothing,just go there without a plan and see what happens,not doing it is the worst thing that can happen(of course this does not apply to really everything..)

I still didn’t get rid of my fear of public speaking. The most important part about facing your fears is that you at least try. You are gonna be freaked out of your mind but the one thing that matters is that you tried (you were courageous enough to do something that you utterly fear/dislike). One time I had this Spanish project which literally determined my grade for the rest of the quarter (1/4 of the school year) and we basically had to write about our made up family tree in Spanish. We had to introduce everyone in our family tree in the paragraph we were writing and we had 2 presentation options: 1. Make a video of you and explain your project and send it to your teacher (only the teacher will see this), and 2. Make your project and present in front of the whole class. I knew that I would regret my whole life if I chose to present in front of the whole class, but you wanna know what, I chose to do it in front of the whole class. When I got up to do my presentation, my voice was cracking, I was shaking like crazy, I was hyperventilating and I wanted to cry and run out of the school. When I received my project, I got 100% and when I left class, all my friends told me that I did a good job and that they would never do a project in front of the class again. What I’m trying to say here is there are many people out there who may be exactly like you. You decide what you want for your own life. You control your emotions. You have the right to prosper in your dreams. Remember fear is just a distraction that you can get rid of. Destroy your fears before they destroy you.

I used to struggle a lot in school due to having no sleep because I would always imagine monsters breaking into my room, and even when I got older, I still imagined robbers/intruders/terrorists breaking into my house and killing me and my family. But, nowadays whenever I get scary thoughts like that, I just think in my mind: “even if there was, what’s the point of being scared of death if we’re all gonna die someday anyways?” So, I just ignore it. But, if I don’t do that, I will think of a bunch of intruders with guns breaking into my house, and I imagine myself fighting them and beating the hell out of them until I’m not scared, but because I’ve done that so many times, I’m not even scared of intruders breaking in anymore. But, when I’m about to go on a huge slide or jump off something huge, I just start thinking of myself relaxing in a place I love while taking deep breaths, then, I get carried away into those thoughts and then when I’m finished zoning out, I say in my head “wait, where am I? I don’t know, but I’ll just do this anyways.” And do the scary rollercoaster/big slide/ big diving board etc. But, I also think of something I like, and then go down. Then, I manually start trying to get out of drifting out once I’m 10% into the scary thing I’m doing so then whenever I DO stop drifting out, I’ll already be 30 - 50% done with the thing that I’m doing. So, I just say in my mind once I’m done drifting out: “well, I would stop, but it’s too late.” And then I finish the scary thing I’m doing. And then for some weird reason, the next time I do that scary thing, I don’t hesitate doing it all, and don’t think of it as a scary thing, instead, I think of it as a fun thing.

this was really helpful. i have been planning my first trip all alone (i just turned 18) to another state and my parents are super protectors. i didn't tell them anything about it until a day before. even though i paid for everything, and solved everything on my own, i was too scared to tell them, but i knew i had to do it and i wanted to do it. i spent the whole day trying to tell them, but i got anxious and thought about million things they could say and ruin my mood for the trip, but then, at a midnight before the trip, i used this trick to text them both about it. and in the morning, their reaction were better than i thought. fear, anxiety and overthinking is just an invisible barrier formed by things that may never happen and only existis in our minds. we have to do things even if we're scared, this is life after all. 💛
