Welcome to my Horizon Zero Dawn Master Machine Hunting series in 2022! In this episode we'll learn the best way to kill multiple Frostclaws at once. With the HZD sequel Forbidden West coming out soon, I know there's going to be a lot of people re-playing Zero Dawn or playing it for the first time. In this series, we're going to cover the most effective tactics for taking down all the toughest machines in the game. Man, I can't believe I forgot about blast bombs... I usually just get into a big scrapping fight where I try to aim 3 hardpoint arrows at any weak point I can. That's actually pretty useful to consider.

I tend to default to arrows too. Not a bad thing since they’re the cheapest type of ammo, but it’s just really tough to deal enough damage with arrows alone when you’re fighting so many Frostclaws at once. Have fun trying it out with the sling!

At extra tip 2. I never knew what the point of the harvest arrows were after playing new game plus so many times. That’s so helpful, now I can farm metal vessels and blaze so much easier

I did not have the blast bombs so I tied them down with the ropecaster and hit containers with precision arrows. Worked quite well.

i personally prefer to use precision arrows only. targeting their freeze sacks with maxed triple shots which explode them really fast. then i target their eyes for high damage. they die quickly

I use basically the same strategy on new game+ ultra hard as well, except loading three arrows and fully drawing them can let you deal over 1000 damage in one shot on their body. Fire can also work though, I think your time on the kill would've been similar if you'd used fire wire instead of blast wire. great strategy though.

Corruption arrows made fighting 4 frost claws at the same time much easier 🥹 just letting them fight each other

for the Claws i find the upgraded Forgefire - obtained in the Frozen Wilds side mission - absolutely NUKES these buggers. !! :D . blast the crap out of them with those ..

Yes! That can work really well too! pretty resource intensive to craft the ammo though if I'm remembering correctly...

In all of these videos you use the shadow bows. Do you personally like or use the Banuk bows? If so, do you prefer quick shots are full draw shots for the extra damage?

Good question! So I only use the shadow bows because they’re easier to get and weaker. I do that purposely to show you don’t need the best gear, but if you have the Banuk bows I would totally use them. They’re my favorite for sure.

A good place to get blaze is at the first hunting grounds.

I went back to play this game this one time a while ago the frost claw site usually have 4 but instead I fought 7 of them some glitch I guess

I'd like a forbidden West version of the Frostclaw fight. I need like a billion of their sac webbings for gear upgrades, and half of the time, I destroy them by accident during the fight.

Must be playing 2 different games because my fights are going nothing like this. Idk how you opened with blast trip , my targets eat them up embolden by fire. Aside from shock to power cell im doing almost no damage. Direct hits on vital parts while frozen barely does anything. Cool video though

Bellowbacks have a VERY accurate ranged attack, so keeping close can actually be a better strategy that trying to outrange them Thats said, triple or double knock into the big tank on their back kills them pretty quick

I had about 200-300 hours in HZD + Frozen Wilds and never encountered a single Frostclaw. I thought they were a new machine for Forbidden West. Mindblown.

Oh interesting. Yup they were in HZD. There was only the one machine site and a few randomly around the Frozen Wilds map. Although you did have to at least run by a Frostclaw if you did the Shaman’s Path quest, but it would be easy to forget about it if you were just running for your life and didn’t bother to scan it :)

@@ArktixOfficial I've just fired up HZD and it's in my machine guide, so I must have scanned it. I remember the tallneck site nearby - but not the frostclaw.. I was convinced I'd completed everything - but it was 4+ years ago. Aloy is pretty maxed out in HZD, so I'll use that for training before taking my HFW Aloy into the fight.

Ah gotcha. Well see that’s cool because now you get to go back for something new in Zero Dawn! I’ve been going back in to ZD to grab clips for videos and I have to say it holds up well even though I’m used to the Forbidden West graphics and everything now.

@@ArktixOfficial It was a nice touch that Aloy had her *depleted* armour - but a shame she forgot all her skills and weapons in the move to the Forbidden West. I may have to switch to Easy for this damn Frostclaw mission... LOL Good video though - helpful.

Yeah I thought that was a nice touch too. It made sense they made it depleted, but yeah they kinda just glossed over the fact that she lost all her gear. I was hoping for a little better reason than “I lost it” lol. But thanks. I’m glad you liked the video. And no worries if you have to turn down the difficulty. Those Frostclaws are super tough :)

I just fought 2 frostclaws using a banuk hunter bow + mods and only did 33 damage per shot... The stats say my bow is supposed to do 114 damage. WTH?? Was that a bug in my game? It took me forever to take them down...

I was using hardpoint arrows and also, when hitting their freeze sacks I would just do 50 damage. Is that normal?

Ok, so I just learned that the banuk bows need to be fully drawn so that they do deal the damage that is stated... I basically just wasted my first 16 gleam

Ah yes, you have to fully overdraw to get full damage. If you don’t like to fully draw most/all of your shots, then the Shadow weapons will be a better fit for you.

I go farm frost claws at that site near the races, close to the owl hunting area. There is a shelter close to the site, so you can easily glide down again and again to respawn the fristclaw and then fly up there with your flying mount. If you go up the peak and stand on the rocks, frostclaw will have a hard time attacking you. If you use a sharpshot bow that is upgraded enough, it is a two hit kill. Up the mountain, on the stone, you can estimate the area till which Frostckaw can't climb up to do the charge attack and can only throw things and do the frostspikes thing.
