I thought so! I've had this pattern in my Ravelry library for several years. I was just thinking about it yesterday in regard to some gradient yarn I've got. I wanted something wider and not as deep. Lo and behold, your video shows up today 5 Aug 2020. Good tutorial with impeccable timing. Thank you!

Thank you for this video! 7 years later it's still helping! The focus issue wasn't a problem for me. The only thing I'm doing different is that the way I was taught, all yo's are counterclockwise. So on Row 2, when you p yo k at the end of the row, I wrap the yarn counterclockwise instead of clockwise at that point.

Thank you! I'm a new knitter trying to start a shawl pattern I found on ravelry that is incredibly similar to this tutorial and you were a great help getting me through the basics I needed! The little bit of blurriness didn't even matter since I was able to follow along just just fine.

Even though it was all blurry, I could still read the pattern. I will write it down and try it because this is the best out of all the videos for knitting a shawl. It makes it simple. The other videos have charts and those are useless. Thanks.

I didn't click on your explanation for the little camera problem because do you know why? *It just didn't MATTER!* Even a tiny bit out of focus, you have still made a perfect little tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing. PS: A little grandmotherly suggestion: You have a great voice for narration! You should really check into doing voice-overs and audiobook narration and stuff like that on a professional basis. ッ

I, too, was bummed about how out of focus it was. However, the main thing I needed help with, with this pattern was picking up the stitches from the side and even though it was blurry, just hearing you explain it helped a lot. I'd never seen that in a pattern before and so had zero inkling on how to go about it! So thank you! Also, your voice is very relaxing, you should try some ASMR videos if you haven't already :)

Hi. Thanks for this video. It looks amazing. I have a weird question I hope you can answer. I was doing a pattern for a triangle shawl similar to this. The right side rows were: K2, yo, K to center stitch and increase 1 stitch on ea. side of center stitch, K to last 2 stiches, yo, K2. The wrong side rows were k2, purl, k2. When I got done and bound off, I discovered I didn't have a triangle, but a diamond shape! Any idea what went wrong?

@voyager9028
@voyager9028 8 жыл бұрын
+Mercy Oluwole It would be exactly the same as on circulars. However, I don't recommend using straight needles. You won't be able to spread out your shawl to examine it as you go along. You may even find that the required number of stitches won't fit on straight needles. Also, your needles will poke into the arms of your easy chair, or into someone next to you on a couch!

+jmarylastone Why would you want to knit tighter?
@jmarylastone
@jmarylastone 9 жыл бұрын
Andy Chen because I am a very loose knitter and I crochet very loose also - if I am not careful my work "fans" out from bottom to top because my gauge relaxes so much as I go

jmarylastone Explain what you mean by fanning, I might be able to help you.
@jmarylastone
@jmarylastone 9 жыл бұрын
Andy Chen after 40 years of knitting and crocheting I have learned how to compensate - I automatically start with 2 or 3 needle sizes smaller than the pattern calls for - my stitches are very even but I can't "not pay attention" - I knit Eastern European style and so long as I purl continental my items come out just fine - my sister always shakes her head when she uses a K hook to get the same stitch I use a H or G hook - knitting and crocheting very relaxing but I can't "space out" like some can
@andychen7390
@andychen7390 9 жыл бұрын
jmarylastone You mentioned fanning before in a previous comment. From what I understand, the bottom (cast on row) is smaller than the rest of the work and thus, creating a fan or trapezoid shape. It seems that your cast on row is too tight and does not stretch enough. There's no shame in needing a different hook or needle size than the majority of people use or what the pattern calls for. Some people can work blind (like I can) and some need to pay attention. As long as the fabric you're creating is to your liking, it's all fine.

***** I made an entire sweater with the Fishermans wool they sell, it turned out lovely, but pilled, but pilling comes with the territory of knitting. I know the way some fibres are spun prevents pilling a bit. Lyon brand was great and There are some really beautiful acrylics out there that are looking so much like wool and that is a great alternative for people with allergies to wool etc, nice nice blends too. Yes, you are right, its quite soft. I love the Kerchief shawls you show and the Colour is beautiful.

@iKNITS
@iKNITS 6 жыл бұрын
Lyndsey B because it was a new camera which had to be manually focused and the screen was super small so it looked fine. When I finished it and uploaded all of the files, I was so disheartened. I wasn’t going to post it but my followers said that it was fine and to just do it. As much as I hate to put anything out there that’s not good quality, I will most likely redo it all. What people do not know is how much time it takes to record and edit a video. Taking pics, etc. hopefully you can understand a little better.
