That’s a very different way of casting on to the way I use (which is the only one I know). However, because knitting top-down socks is a current favourite knitting project, I will try this when I start my next pair. Thank you.

@@helenkennedydesignsI have noticed that some (as you do) twist the stitch when mounting and some do not. I will be using this CO for 2X2 rib at the beginning of a🧣🙏

@@ilonarosenason2475 Hello! You are right, some twist and some do not, either is fine as long as you are consistent during the cast on! You can make this 2X2 rib by rearranging the stitches! I must do a video!

I Just join it and then use the yarn tail to disguise the join, any other joining techniques tend to make this join more obvious! I'll be releasing a video next week on using this cast on for 2x2 rib and I show how I disguise the join in that one..

Can you remove the original slip knot once you are done casting on? Or is the original slip knot just not visible once joined in the round?

You can remove it if you want to, remember to have an extra stitch at the end, and if you need your round to start K1,P1, once you have your two stitches cast on, start the cast on with a k1(instead of a P1) as the slip know stitch will be lost, causing a shift in pattern at the start of the round, does that make sense?

@@helenkennedydesigns Yes that makes sense. I'm going to give this a shot on the second hat I've ever maid. I just finished my first magic loop hat. It was shorter than I needed it to be and I didn't do any ribbing on it. So this looks like perfect thing I need to make a stretchy rib so the hat won't curl. My main concern is making the slip knot invisible. If I'm understanding it correctly if I needed 102 stitches I'd cast on 102 stitches not including the slip knot. It wouldn't need an extra stitch if I was already planning on removing the slip knot. When you joined the round did you just knit the first stitch cause it was the slip knot? I just want the pattern to look as symmetrical as a spiral can. So trying to figure out how you hid the start.

Hi Hannah. I'm sorry I don't pick, but this cast on uses the same basic movements as a knit and purl stitch, just that you insert the needle between stitches rather than through the loop so in theory you should be able to work this cast in using your usual knitting style. As for 2X2 you cast on in exactly the same way (1X1) but then rearrange the stitches so you get 2X2. So work a knit stitch, next two stitches swap places so instead of being p1, k1, you cross them over to get k1, p1, work those two stitches, next stitch should be a purl...so then you have k2, p2....etc hope that makes sense...try it out probably makes more sense if you actually do it!
