This video demonstrates a reversible "edgeless" cast on for k2p2 fabrics. It is a variation on the Alternating CO for single rib (k1p1), demonstrated in this video: • Alternating (aka Itali...
The cast on resembles the tubular cast on for k2p2 fabric, but does not have the angled twist seen at the base of the tubular cast on. Instead, the alternating CO produces straight columns of k2p2 all the way to the base.

A plethora of information.... don’t ever stop your channel 😅. I’m returning to knitting after a back injury 25 yrs ago and am taking slow and steady. It no longer seems to be the simple world of plain, purl, drop stitches, cables taught by our grandparents. It has truly evolved. Thanks for your clear instruction. From Australia 🐨🐨

Brilliant, as always. I will now go and swatch! You might not feel your pain when you break your wool like that but I do! Every time I see a (usually experienced) knitter do this I wince. Thank you so much for yet another superb tutorial.

Thank you so much. I just used it for a XL sweater with 324 CO stitches. It made counting and keep track of Knits and Purls very easy. I think it looks so much prettier than long tail cast on. So happy I found your video.

This is fantastic! I've been trying to find an alternative to the 2x2 tubular cast-on. KZfaq search brought me to your lesson. Wow! I'm going to use this all the time now...well, as often as I can.

Roxanne you are a genius..... and such a gem! Thank you so much for this video. I was just thinking also, that another disadvantage of this cast on would be that unlike the tubular cast on there is not a channel of double knitting to run a thin elastic through, as in cinching up a neckline or baggy cuffs. Also a tubular cast is so easy to run some yarn ends through that channel as well. Just some thoughts 💕 I look forward to EVERY single episode you post. Your you tube channel is like going to a knitting university! Yarny hugs sent your way!

As usual, your video saved the day. I was having difficulty with the long tail tubular cast on and went looking for an alternative. I got this one right away plus I like the look of it better. Thanks Roxanne!

What a timely video! I actually wanted a tubular k2 p1 ribbing for a hat. Using this method I cast on a third more stitches then I needed (160 vs 120) and then did a flat row of k2 slip 2 wyf followed by another flat row of k2tog, slip 2 wyf before joining in the round and going up a needle size. I am very happy with the result, thank you!

Thank you so much for this! I've been having lots of fun lately with the various invisible and tubular cast-ons, and teaching friends how to do them. They will be thrilled to know about this K2P2 option, although here in Tasmania almost everyone knits with yarn in the right hand, and always does knitted cast-ons and the prospect of doing a long tail-cast-on makes our eyes cross. I am peeved at myself for not working out that doing the italian cast-on while holding two tails of yarn, would enable this effect! Now I want to try using the 4 tubular set-up rows, KK-slip 2 purlwise, to find out whether this can produce a thicker, stretchier edge. Perhaps it won't work at all though.

Ok, so ijust tried this cast-on as described, which gave a very flat edge, and definitely needs the smaller cast-on needle to prevent loose stitches. Then I cast on again using the same size needle as I knitted with, rather than going down a size, plus the 2 tubular set-up rows. Then into K2P2 rib. And it looks really nice, and is still plenty stretchy. I think it is an improvement on the version shown here, as the cast-on edge is thicker and softer, and it is definitely a visual improvement on the version where you cast on in K1P1 then have to twist every other pair of stitches to turn the work into K2P2 rib. Maybe you can demonstrate this method next time Roxanne! Plus this is a whole lot less tedious!

Thanks for posting your results! I am part of a charity knitting group in the US and we make lots of hats to donate. This will give us a new style of casting on to give a stretchier edge in place of the LTCO.

Thank you for a great video, I love the neat edge of the ribbing. I would like to use this cast on for my upcoming project, could I ask you for advice? The pattern calls for k3 *p2, k2* k1 (RS) Is it possible to set it up using the alternative cast on with the uneven number of sts in beginning and end of the 2x2 rib pattern? Thanks again for a great tutorial.

I would suggest trying it on a swatch and finding out whether it works or not (or works well enough for your purposes). That's how I answer questions I have about various techniques.

I’m currently binge watching your episodes and you mentioned a wolf festival in Minnesota in one episode but I can’t remember which episode I would like to attend it. Could you please let me know what the festival is called and when it is

Are you asking about a wool festival, or a wolf festival? Shepherd's Harvest is in Lake Elmo at the Washington County Fairgrounds every Mother's Day weekend. As for a wolf festival...there is an annual silent auction for the International Wolf Center up in Ely Minnesota.

My pattern for a top down sweater starts and ends with 5 stitches for a garter stitch button border and then K2P2 ribbing. How would I handle the first and last 5 stitches? Or would a different cast on be more appropriate?
@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson 4 жыл бұрын
Without knowing more about the pattern, I can't give you a good answer. If you start a new thread in the Rox Rocks group on Ravelry and ask your question there, and link to the pattern page, I/we can see better what the neckline looks like as well as the stitch pattern. Otherwise, I would suggest swatching and see what you think.
