How to knit SSK - slip, slip, knit the continental way for beginners (+slow-mo)

This video is a full tutorial on how to knit the SSK knitting decrease. Slip, Slip, knit creates a left-leaning increase and is popular because the decrease line is very neat - even though it's a tiny bit more difficult to knit.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Slip the two stitches you want to decrease knitwise to the right needle
Step 2: Slip the stitches back to the left needle (without adding further twists)
Step 3: Insert the right needle into the back loop of these two stitches from right to left
Step 4: Wrap the yarn around the needle counter-clockwise
Step 5: Pull the yarn through, and drop the stitch
Repeat steps 1-5 to knit another ssk decrease - slip, slip, knit.

I started learning how to knit last year with the help of your videos. You are an outstanding teacher! I learned the very basics creating scarves, dishcloths, and other flat things. Then summer came with hiking and gardening season so I took a break from knitting. Now that the days are short and dark again, I am progressing to knitting a hat learning K2tog and SSK. Again, your videos are the best! I'm looking forward to some fun new projects.

Thanks so much for your videos. I've been teaching myself to knit for the past month. I'm a crocheter. I didn't even know there were different styles. I've been going back and forth from English to continental to see which is best for me and I kept having my challenges with both but I think....I think haha continental just hits all the checks for me and my main down side with continental was I couldn't seem to relax my hands easily like I could with English. But I've been practicing and I'm getting better. So I will be referring to your videos a lot. Thank you.

Hiya Norman, in ssk, some pattern say slip 1 st knitwise and slip 2nd st purlwise then k2tog from back. Apart from the twisted 2nd st, is there any advantage/disadvantage for this? Thank you for your videos, I find your explanation really helpful. It sticks in my brain.

some say it lays flatter for them. for me it doesn't..but for some it is. so try it out. it's known as SSPK then (slip, slip purl, knit)

well, the good news is: there are no hard rules in knitting. you can basically do whatever you want. Well, there is one rule: whatever you do, do it consistently. So, you can definitely knit two stitches through the back loop only. This will be a different decrease but still a decrease. if you find that easier and like the way it looks, go ahead :)
