Step-by-step instructions on the one-move SSK. A neat left-slanting decrease

SSK, slip slip knit, creates a neat leaf-leaning decrease. However, it involves 3 steps and often looks a bit sloppy if not done correctly. The one move SSK fixes both problems and can be a super smart solution for looser knitters

Tip: For a yet neater version of this decrease, watch my video on K2tog-left: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p7SlaMqEmszdcZc.html Sadly, there is no real naming convention in knitting. So the names for similar techniques with the same technical outcome are all over the place.

I stopped crocheting for a long time after learning to knit--and especially after finding your channel--because the way I was learning to knit was more helpful for figuring out what was going on a deeper level than anything I'd learned with crochet. I decided to make a quick amigurumi for a Christmas present and realized that all the things I'd learned about reading my knitting were transferrable to crochet and I felt more proficient at it than I had with my last project. I've felt like an absolute wizard the last couple months figuring out how knitting skills are helping out with this other hobby. I clicked on this video because my knitting project is about to start using a bunch of SSKs and wanted to see if I could make them neater. You have once again proven that you are the true master of yarn magic.

Thanks Norman! I really like the variations; never come across these before. It's odd, but I seldom have occasion to use the SSK either - not sure why that would be. As always, you are an inspiration and make me want to branch out a bit. Arthritis in my left thumb has required me to spend the last couple of years completely relearning how to knit by flicking with my right hand (thank you Stacey of Very Pink Knits!). After a lifetime of knitting continental, it has been a real struggle to achieve the same level of proficiency, and I'm still working at it. However, I'm just so grateful to be able to keep knitting at all! You've kept me encouraged and motivated this whole time; thank you so much for all your brilliant instruction, and for just being you. 💕

Thank you for always showing ways of refining our work. As I always say you help more and more to elevate knitting into a fine art and more elegant results.

This is the same as what I do - slip that second stitch purlwise instead of knitwise. Never thought about doing it in one motion. Thanks Norman, your videos ways contain very fresh and informative techniques that aren't available in regular knitting resources

I sometimes do SKP instead of SSK but neither of them seem as clean as what you’re showing. I will try it out! Thank you!

give it a try. I mean..this really boils down to your personal tension. For me, this version is not as neat as SSK + ktbl/ptbl in the next round. But for some, it'smuch neater!

Wait how is this different from the k2tog left? I just had to rewatch your video on it and then watch back this video, then I tried it myself and to me it’s the same movement, except you didn’t yank the second strand to tighten the stitch? In your k2tog left video, you pull up the loop thru the 2nd st on the needle, then thru the 1st st on the needle in 2 moves, but you can do it smoothly in 1 move, just like you just showed in this video. At least that what I’m doing, but maybe I’m confused lol
@nimbleneedlestwo
@nimbleneedlestwo 8 ай бұрын
yeah, that's the only difference, really ^^ this video was a request. if oyu know k2tog left, stick to that ^^ that final yank is important

I just watched your k2tog left video and this SSK in one move looks like almost the same thing to me. Or am I missing something? Still fairly new to knitting, so I just wanted to verify that I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing. :)

heh. yes, it's almost the same! the difference is just the last tugging motions. thing is...people wanted me to shoot a video and nobody standardized these names yet!

wrong is such a strong word. differently maybe...but that doesn't mean it can't be pretty! do what brings you joy and what feels comfortable for you!

this is why I don't like knitting compared to crochet. it is to complicated and never really looks good when you have to decrease on of the ways.
@nimbleneedlestwo
@nimbleneedlestwo 8 ай бұрын
i'd tend to disagree but maybe you are more familar with crochet which makes one seem more complicated.

Fortunately, there are many, many ways to play with string, and we can all try different things to find what we like best. So much fiber, so little time. 😉

That last part is way too fast and I can't see what you're doing even with the video speed slowed way down.

sorry about that. I try to keep these videos as concise as possible and this was not really what this video was about. I 'll put it on my list and maybe do a proper video on 1x1 cables without a cable needle.
