HOW TO: KTM 790/890 Adventure Aux Light Install w/ Cyclops Aurora Light Kit

We recently installed the new Aurora 2 Inch Auxilary Light Kit on our KTM 790 Adventure R. Let us show you how to do it from start to finish. We also go into more detail about this new light kit from Cyclops Adventure Sports. Cyclops Aux Light Kits for the 790 Adventure: bit.ly/790auxLIT
Tools Needed:
- 1/4" Rachet and a medium extension
- T27 & T25 Torx Bits
- Large Flat Blade Screwdriver
- Flex Magnet
- Zip Ties and Clippers
- Knife
As always, this is a guide. Not all kits will install exactly the same so please read the instructions that come with your specific kit and follow them. Please follow the instructions on a new Cyclops kit as well to make sure that any changes are accounted for over time.

The best tip in the whole video is the box holding the screws! As one who has had an 890 headlight off, it took two days to find out the right position of all the screws. Good video.

Ok. I installed the lights. Couldn’t have done it really without this video. The directions that come with the lights aren’t the best. I hardwired a zumo xt at the same time. I think I got super lucky putting it back together but it’s a bitch. There is zero room in the headlight.Thank you! Love the cyclops lights.

Great video. One thing I would suggest is while you have the front light apart run some wires up to a potential voyager Pro or gps so you don't have to do all of the uninstall of the light 2 times.

As an install alternative: I brought the power back the to battery so that the fuse and relay are easily accessible and mounted the relay to the top of the battery hold down. The only thing I have running into the headlight assembly is the trigger wire for the relay. Headlight assembly is already pretty crowded and I'd hate to have to dig into the headlight assembly just to get to a fuse or replace the relay.

thanks for the video, but i have a question, i have a ktm 890 r, and i want to buy this lights, what happend if i want to turn on the auxiliary lights with the OEM high beam switch, i want to turn on the auxialry lights in the day for the entire ride, do i need to go with the high beam lights in the entire ride???? or is possible to go with the low bean lights and the auxiliary lights on??? i ask you because i want to other people really see me even in the day with the auxiliary lights on

I have a 2010 KTM 990 ADV, with a dash-mounted 12 volt port that's powered by/connected to the ACC1 plugs now. Will I need a second "Y" harness (like you use on the ACC2 plugs with the heated grips) so I can power both my new Auroras and the 12 volt plug?

We highly recommend calling Cyclops directly and getting that answered. They know the motorcycle electrics far better than we do.

Thanks for the informative video. In this install power for the aux LEDs is coming from ACC1 correct? I also have heated grips and don't want to overload the switched ACC2 circuit.

So this is what I gather, if I want to add heated grips and the lights I would use the supplied bridging wires. I’m wondering how to also add the power for the nav because I believe it’s run off the acc2 as well?

The aux power port is still in play. And if that doesn't offer enough ports, you could wire in a different one with a little DIY know how. Beyond that, I would call Cyclops and see f they have a recommendation or a solution beyond what we showed here. Thank you for watching.

Nice and very detailed video, I am planing to install the same lights but also I am getting Garmin Zumo XT navigation, do you have any recommendation how to wire them, what plug goes where, don't have the heated grips yet but planing get them in the future.....thank you , keep up good work, cheers V!

We would power the Garmin off of the AUX power outlet on the dash or simply hardwire it to the battery. Beyond that, I would contact Cyclops directly and see if they have a way to add the Garmin and the heated grips to the same circuit.

Hi I have heated grips also connected the Y harness can be purchased through cyclops as Well?

I believe the heated grips can also be easily integrated into the Y harness and I don't believe you need to purchase anything additional. I have both the grips and lights and plan on installing both soon.

is it necessary to unscrew / loosen the TFT at all?

Yes, the mounting bolts need to be removed from the back of the TFT to allow the housing to split. It just hangs there though. You don't need to remove it from the wiring harness.

So do the white part of the lights only work when high beams are turned on?

Exactly! They only trigger when the high beams are on.

Do you mean from the bikes stock headlight? For the Aurora lights, the white/center light is off until the bikes high beams are turned on. Then the Aurora's center white light turns on to add a lot of light further down the road. The amber rings are on at all times as driving lights.

@UPSHIFT ONLINE Which is the blue wire equivalent on the 390 harness? My headlight connector does not have a blue wire.

@@1948c170 it’s the Red/Blue wire on the headlight plug. Cyclops says to use Black/Red, That’s incorrect as there is no wire that color on the headlight plug.

The Cyclops bracket is not very well made and it doesn’t fit without modifying the bracket to fit over the the support tabs for the bars. The coating isn’t very durable and there were no instructions that came with the light bar. I just decided to get some engine guards and PIAA mounts and some S2 pro’s from Bd.

That was not our experience. If anything the bracket was over built and as you can see in the video, everything is pretty straight forward. The S2 is a good light but doesn't offer quite the same functionality as the Cyclops Aurora. We run the S2 on our van and as a secondary on one of our small bikes.

@@UPSHIFT_ONLINE It’s very well built but it doesn’t fit. So what’s your point ? I have never had a single issue with Baja designs in over a decade. The S2 pro is basically indestructible. The amber lenses are by far the best light for being seen day or night. The only reason I didn’t buy there kit was they weren’t offered with amber lenses. Nothing beats amber light in rain fog or dust.

Did you call them? It's possible that they packed your box with the wrong bracket. Ours was spot on. We have had great experiences with Baja as well. But the Aurora offers more functionality with the 790/890.
