What is hypnopedic training?
Hypnopedic learning is the acquisition of information during sleep, when the brain is in a state of reduced activity but still able to perceive sounds. The idea of such training is not new: back in the 1920s, American psychologist Lloyd P. Jackson conducted experiments in which he played recordings with positive statements to sleeping people, such as: "You are very intelligent and talented." According to him, this boosted the subjects' self-esteem and confidence.
However, the scientific community was skeptical of such methods, believing that sleep is a time when the brain rests and processes information received during the day. In addition, there was insufficient evidence that a sleeping person could memorize new information, not just reinforce existing knowledge.
But this has changed in recent years. Thanks to advances in neuroscience and technology, scientists have been able to more accurately measure brain activity during sleep and conduct a number of experiments that have shown that hypnopedic learning is possible, although it has its limitations.
If such a possibility is how to properly learn a language in sleep so that it gives results?
So, we realized that you can't learn a language entirely during sleep. But you can still help your brain to better memorize lessons on vocabulary, conversation, as well as grammar. Rebecca Crowley, a researcher at Royal Holloway, University of London, says you can "shift" the focus of memory for language lessons during wakefulness by listening to recordings while you sleep. During a night's rest, people combine new memories with old ones. The neurons associated with the memories are activated, as if replaying the events.
So, if you want to improve your Spanish while sleeping, you can try the following tips that I talk about in this video! :)
