Sometimes it happens that even good trousers become short. This happens after washing. The missing 4-5 cm can be returned, and no one will notice the repair. This problem also affects fast-growing children and adolescents.
Usually on trousers in stock, a few centimeters go to the hem. We will use them, and, of course, we need to add another fabric.
Method one
It is not necessary to have exactly the same material here, other fabrics will do.
- First you need to open the side seams by 5-6 cm.
- Then prepare strips of fabric or braid, they should be as long as the width of the halves of the legs. In height, they will be slightly larger than the lapel of the trousers, which is about 5 cm.
- Sew the strips to the trousers, iron the seams, trim the edges.
- Overcast the seams to the end of the legs.
- Stitch side seams.
- Tuck the bottom where the stripes are sewn and tuck the edge at the level of the fold, which was originally on the short trousers.
- Stitch.
Method two
- In finished form, you get cuffs, so you need to choose a fabric that matches the tone or exactly the same. Such an addition will look very neat.
- Open the side seams, remove the stitching. Prepare strips of fabric 10 cm wide.
- Attach them to your trousers. Trim the edges and immediately overcast on three sides.
- Stitch side seams. Direct the seams of the cuff towards the trousers.
- Turn the sewn part up to the original fold and stitch.
- Turn the cuff up to the stitching.
- Stitch cuffs to side seams.
It is important to iron the seams after each line, so everything will look high quality.
In both cases, the trousers will become 4-5 cm longer. This will be enough for them to become the same as before.
There are other ways to extend. For example, sew a folded cuff to the edge of the legs or, if it is jeans, sew lace.
