Level audio in Premiere Pro is a critical point of your editing process. You want to make sure all the dialogue, music, or voiceover has the correct level or volume.
It's easy to change this clip by clip by raising or lowering the audio attached to each clip.
But an easier option is normalizing all peaks to a certain number. -3 dB is usually good for this.

I used to do a lot of sound editing using Adobe audition and always wanted to get the "perfect" audio, so I spent a lot of time learning and applying hard limiters, compressors, threshold, attack, release, different filters, denoisers, etc. It wasn't long before I realized the vast majority of the people couldn't tell the difference, or didn't care about the difference between audio that's been edited for 3 hours on Adobe audition vs audio that's been edited in 20 minutes using premiere pro. I'm sure a lot of people can probably relate with stressing out and over the complicating things, applying an unnecessary amount of time in the wrong areas, etc. This was a helpful video, strait to the point! Thanks

Hi thank you for this video. I am guilty of pulling the line for the audio one by one. However, i do have an issue that i never realised until recently. I wanted my background music to be really soft so my voice can be heard. No matter if i was pulling the audio level line down or using your method which is via the audio track mixer, the audio will sound soft and nice in premier pro. But once I export into mp4 (H.264), the background music is very loud. Like so loud that it seemed like I never changed the audio level. Can u kindly help advice where i have gone wrong in my steps? thank u so much.

i have been using the feature where i select my music on the track, then i select the dialog, and then i turn on the "ducking" feature with the default settings. then i used your tip here to turn the normalize all peaks to -3.8. do you think this is a good plan to get the best audio out of the track so it doesnt sound too low or too high? it does sound a lot better. i was kind of doing it by ear which i think was a mistake because i was trying to make content to post online.

This is really great. The only issue I've found is that if I have one high peak somewhere random in the middle of a clip, then this whole clip will be lower than the others. For example when recording a screencast I hit my keyboard for a few seconds and it was louder than my voice normally is, so the voice for the whole section was much lower than in the rest of the video.

Dear Saj Adibs dB is for Decibel not Decimal. dB is the unit of amplification or amplification factor + is gain and - is loss. Farsi baladi? I am looking for ways for small adjustments in the audio level (fine-tuning) to make sure when going to a new clip, the audio transition is easy on the ears. Sepaas.

This was really useful but another tip you can do is to check your stat's for nerds (right click your video in the middle) and look at where it says volume / normalization and look far right from that and you see it says content loudness -11.3db, You want it to be near -0db. To fix that I recommend this video "How to Set Perfect AUDIO Levels for KZfaq in Premiere Pro CC! [Shortcut]" - Just search that perfect and it will help. Not alot of people knows this for some reason so if you made another video talking about it, It could shed some knowledge
