Good on you mate, great video, clear and concise. I have an MTD Yardman with a 42" 2-blade deck and the side-to-side leveling mechanism is the same, and the front leveling bolt-bar is very similar, only you have to drop the deck to adjust the 2 nuts (one nut adjusts the bar length, the other nut locks against it to maintain bar length). The only thing I would add, is that inflating to the same tyre pressures is a good start but don't stop there. Measure the height of the top of the rim above ground on both sides, and adjust the tyre pressure until both are the same and therefore axles level. Mine was out by 7mm with the same PSI, by dropping ~2PSI I could level the axle before doing the rest of the measuring and checking.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 4 жыл бұрын
Ahh I like that one. Good thinking there. Nice tip. Yeah MTD makes these Troy-Bilts (and most other brands) so they are all very similar in setup!

This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use kzfaq.infoUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability,deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

Good job. Please notice that the selector height is on 4, but the blade tips are actually cutting at about 2.5”. This is a common deal with riding mowers. What that means to you when you drop the selector to 3, you are cutting really low at about 1.5” or so. Homeowners chronically cut their grass to short. Solution is to raise the deck height selector to 5, which means you are cutting at about 3.5”.

One thing I do to make it easier is to cut a small stick (pencil sized or a little smaller) and use it to measure the discharge side. You can press it against the blade to make a mark. Then I cut it off. I then take my stick, which is the exact cutting height of the discharge side, and stick it under the other side. You can feel exactly where the blade is. Lower or raise to adjust. Then check again as I had had the adjustment change of the discharge side if you lower/raise it by much. I am fighting this Troybilt of mine, the deck is too low trying to figure out how to raise it.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 2 жыл бұрын

Should the deck belt be loose or tight on the Troy. Video is very helpful

Thanks. The deck belt should be tight enough not to fall off. You can see it in my how to remove the deck video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qrF-pNKczrTTYGQ.html

My problem is my mower is mowing lower than it used to....all the way around. And I replaced a rear tire with the exact same size according to the tire reading but it is a smaller tire both in width and height 🤷

Hmmm...that doesn't make much sense. Mine cuts pretty low as well though. I can only use it on the very top setting.

Thank for your video. I have the very same mower. I got my meet serviced and when I got it back. The shoot side was cutting way to low. I did what you said in the video. It still is cutting to low on the shoot side, it helped a little though. I just don't know if maybe I'm doing something wrong or did they put something on wrong or what. I'm not sure. I do have a bagger attached to the mower.

Just bought a used Troy Bilt. Using your video I leveled the deck using another video from Troy replaced the belt. Thank you for your videos. Need your help, the belt came off after only about 40 minutes. I will probably tackle it again next week after the new mulching blades come in. What should I be looking for to make sure the belt doesn't come off. Thank you!
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... a brand new belt shouldn't be loose enough to come off. If it's loose when you engage the PTO I would say it is probably the tension spring has gotten old and too stretched out, or the idler pulley is not functioning right. Those are easy to replace. That's what tightens the belt. My guess would be one of those two things.

Flip, I have LT160 riding mower that I got used and started using this year. When I mow thw lawn, I get a lot of clumps on the lawn between the two blades. Any suggestions besides the tire inflation, Blade sharpness and Deck adjustments? Should grass shoot be raised up so that grass clipping has way to shoot out?
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 5 жыл бұрын
The three best tips I could give you are 1) Cut the grass a little taller. Raise the deck and cut it more often. 2) Go slower when cutting. This gives the grass blades more time to be thrown out and not left on the ground. 3) Make sure under the deck is clean and cut the grass when its dry. Discharge chute shouldn't need raising or anything. Hope that helps.

My Sears Craftsman 19.5hp looks exactly like this. Also no wheels on the deck and same deck level adjustments. - Is there a way to add 4 wheels to your deck or do you basically have to buy a new deck? I think the anti-scalp wheels would be helpful. Thanks!
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah both made my MTD so very similar. Yes you can buy universal anti-scalp wheels and attach them to your deck.
@cf6979
@cf6979 4 жыл бұрын
@@fixitFlip Thanks for the information! I bet the anti-scalp wheels will help the blades stay sharp longer too. I can't imagine it's good for the blades to be cutting the grass so low and sometimes into the dirt when you're mowing at an angle.

I Would think the different makes of blades would make a difference. Going by what you said, 2.75 on the back 2.5 ON THE FRONT. IS THAT THE STANDARD, regardless of blade pitches. And maybe you should make a comment if you have a bent blade to replace them to get more accurate. For me and my mowing, I hit a lot of rocks!
