Adjust and Level the deck on your riding mower or yard tractor yourself. This will allow you to get an even cut from your deck by leveling the mower deck and adjusting the height for each side. I'll also show you how to adjust the front of the deck for the best cut and how to adjust the anti-scalp wheels.

Thank you so much Dennis for all your instruction videos. This is my first riding lawnmower. (Husqvarna YTH 24V48) I've never really done anything of this before so it's unfamiliar territory. HOWEVER, after watching most of your videos I find that's it's relativity easy, & something that I'm more than capable of doing myself, & in the process save a whole lot of money too.

@@dwcoffey So, I work at a Western Auto store. Blast from the past, I know. We've been in business for going on 83 years, now, and ours might literally be the last WA in existence. Anyway, we sell Husqvarna mowers, and deck leveling is the latest of the various random jobs I've been tasked with over the years. I've got NO experience with this. I'm not even handy worth a damn, at all... so this video has been a godsend. Just wanted to say thanks man!

Okay, Dennis, I had to follow up with you. I've had my Husqvarna rider for 12 years and have never leveled my deck. The last few years I've been scalping my lawn and wondered what the heck is going on. I thought, "Maybe it's my deck?" So I searched KZfaq and your video came up. I watched your video, took notes, and went for it. My deck was soooo out of whack in the front and back and my scalp-preventing wheels were set on the top hole, so I lowered both to the bottom (we have lots of dips and valleys too). WOW. I did my 1st mow here in Ferndale, WA (where it's like a rain forest) and I was amazed at the difference. Thank you so much, Dennis, for taking the time to make this video. You literally saved me hours of time raking because my deck was cutting way too low...even on the highest setting!

Hi Mr Coffey great video. The Pastor of the church right next door to my house always asks me to fix things for them and just the other day I replaced the Spindles on their riding mower and he asked me to level the deck since one side cuts higher then the other, I told him it was the adjustment nut on the one side and now your video confirmed it for him. You are so right about measuring to the blade. I was getting frustrated by the ordeal until I eyed a long 3/4" wood dowel in my basement. I cut the dowel to about 2 1/2". I place the cutting blade per instructions in the manual and set the dowel against the blade and mark it with a pencil. I then put either a "R" or "L" for the Side I mark. I use pencil so that I can erase the line when readjusting. Thanks for your video, enjoyed it.

Thanks Dennis. You just helped me to get the Husky to cut more even. Yes, these mowers only have about three height settings possible to cut at.......MAYBE 4 if I messed with the wheels. I've had my Husky 12 or 13 years and the cutting height issue is something that has bothered me. It's only a problem if you let your lawn go to long in the spring and it gets too tall. You can't cut high and lower it for a second pass. I just learned to get with it in the spring and don't let it go to long! LOL!!

Hey Dennis, nice, precise, well-explained video. I just picked up a YTH18K46 with only 260 hours on the Kawasaki engine. It looks almost new, you can tell it was properly maintained. However... I did find the dreaded grass clumps underneath the engine/tank area that keeps the drive belt from being fully engaged. Cleaned all that debris out of there and thought hey, might as well do the deck. I jotted down some notes from this video and heading out to work her over. Thanks again for a very good video.

Thanks for a really nice video! A suggestion: At 7:37 when you are tightening the locknut with your 11/16 wrench, you should hold the adjustment nut with the 3/4 wrench so it doesn't move out of adjustment. This is why they are different sizes, so you don't need two wrenches of the same size.

I have also found that cutting a block of wood to the height I want my grass and setting it under the blades works fairly quickly for and accurate adjustment.

While I'm at it, let me tell you that I straightened out my bent deck my using washers under the deck when replacing a mandrill...it worked and I got the blades lined up after many attempts made easy using my new impact driver. An impact driver makes working on these machines a whole lot easier.

I have found that using a scrap piece of 2x4 (4”-5” in length) is an easy way to confirm the floor to cutting edge height. I place the deck on the 3 1/2” height setting, then slide the 2x4 block underneath the deck to see where it meets the cutting edge. Since the actual width of the 2x4 is 3 1/2”, you simply adjust the deck until the cutting edge meets the top of the 2x4 block.

Thank you for the info. Really enjoy all your video. They have been very helpful. Should you level your mower every time you mow or just a few times during the mowing season? I watched your videos and they really helped me out , thanks again .

Thanks for watching, Daniel! I only check mine when I change the blades or when I see that I'm not cutting level (like if I notice may first pass across the lawn isn't quite level). Normally it wont get out of level unless you hit something, etc.

Great video, I have the same mower, and have watched just about every video you have made. I was going to ask you how I could raise the height of cut, but you answered my question at the end of your video. Maybe another of your viewers has a solution. There does not seem to be enough room to put bigger tires on. I just inflate my tires to double what it calls for.🤷🏻‍♂️

Rick, Easiest would be to add a spacer block to where the transmission bolts to the frame. You would verify how much you can go to not put too much of an angle on the drive belt. 1/2 or 1" square tubing from the hardware store for the rear and larger tires on the front.

Thanks for watching, Rick! Yes, I've said I was going to figure out how to modify the deck linkage to raise it a bit, but haven't had a chance to do it yet.

I like 2" blade height. I have plastic caps from spray paint cans that are exactly 2" high, I slip them under the blade tips on the ends side to side, then a little less in the front blade tips turned to the front, and a little more with blade tips turned to the rear. Yep, getting a tape under there is a hassle. Look around, plastic caps are in all sizes, or you could cut some pvc or something.

Dennis, A suggestion: as Husqvarna does not make a service manual available, a collection of suggested torque settings would be a good help for many, Off the top of my head I can only remember 45 to 55 foot pounds for the blades.
@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, David! You should be able to download a free owners manual and repair parts manual from Husqvarna's web site. I have not seen a service manual though. You are correct about the torque, the blade bolts should be torqued to 45-55 ft lbs.
