Our generation is fascinated with living simply and really small spaces. Well #hotelPrius is Both. For over a year I lived out of my Toyota Prius to experiment in living as efficiently as I could. I've made a few videos to share with you what I learned and how I did it. Enjoy. This is the video where I show you how to set up your prius with the materials listed in the Materials video here: • How To Live Out of you...

I live in a 1 car garage that I rent for $80 a month from this one lady, it has room for my fridge,microwave,bed, and plenty of storage. It's safe because it's in a back alleyway and literally right around the corner is a grocery store, laundromat, a gym (where I shower and bathroom) and about 1000 feet away from that is a target and Home Depot. I like the life I live

I'm living in a 2007 VW Passat wagon and I can't even begin to tell you how great a roof box is!! It frees up so much space in the cabin and let's you be more covert while on the road. The roof box, a Thule Mountaineer I got for $200 on Craigslist, freed up so much space that I was able to fit a twin sized memory foam mattress in the trunk. It folds down with the rear seats and makes sleeping so enjoyable. I also found that side curtains are a must. It allows you to sleep in well lit areas like Walmart without a problem. Pro tip though. If you do decide to sleep in a Walmart parking lot for extended periods of time become friendly with at least on employee that way management stays chill about you being there.

Yours is the first reply I saw after this video and so bizarre cause I also have a Mazda 5 (just a Protege), but I'm also going to be outfitting it for at least a beginner car camping experience. (Don't know if the car will last me long enough to make it a full on living experience!) This video is now my inspiration FOR SURE! How has life on the road been? Congrats on that!

Walmart sells a pretty thin retractable rod with grippy rubber tips in the same aisle's as their blackout curtains. They're about $4 for the retractable rod, you unscrew it in one direction to lengthen it, then you can just push it with a bit of spring-tension into between whatever two places you want (in this case, between the two panels behind the front seats. Throw on a blackout curtain (they sell the single-panel ones for a few bucks) that you can do a bit of cutting on to size to remove excess, and it's a very quick and cheap solution out of Walmart. It won't be perfect, and in some cases you might want to do a bit of extra gluing/sewing to modify the top that goes around the rod to get more light sealed out between the roof and the rod, but this mostly will depend on how the curtain itself is constructed with its holes to go onto the rod.

15 months living in my Prius. A couple of ideas to consider: Induction stove and induction pressure cooker much better then propane and you can cook inside. Black towels with button holes hung on hooks for curtains and multi use. Soft bags instead of hard plastic boxes are much more versatile. Get an expensive backpacking mattress. Well made windows screens are a must. Great start! Now get ride of half of that stuff! :)

Although it may appear "cramped", a Prius is VERY fuel/cost efficient and is also like a mobile battery. One can use electric convection stovetop and charge their devices and the Prius battery is extremely efficient and cost effective when using an inverter.

Such a fun video! I love my prius (same color/model as yours). I also had the same ikea comforter when I was in high school. So many great tips. I like the way you used the containers to provide support for part of the bed and still have access to storage. The rigid older suitcase is genius as a work surface/lap top table, and clothing storage too. Nothing gets mashed and wrinkled. So many good ideas that it's hard to enumerate everything. Don't know if you plan to cook inside but I'd be concerned with doing that. Like you said, it's good to have some healthy snacks for those times when you can't cook. Today, I watched a video of a guy "cooking" his steel cut oats in a thermos. Of course it took some time and you had to heat the water but, it was an alternative to standing at the stove and stiring. I have a hot pot. It's a way to heat (with elect) some water to make coffee, tea, and maybe something like that. I have a 110 outlet in my car. Wouldn't do to run it for long, but I think the Prius has a charging system for even when you're not driving, right? Anyway, good video. Thanks for posting. I have a tip you might like. To hold your comforter, etc. in place, you can get a fitted bed sheet and use a bungie system of some sort to hold it tight on the back side. Sort of like holding a cover on an ironing board. or suspenders.... Well, Just an idea! I love the pillow case curtains/rod solution. OK, anyway, cool video. Here's the guy cooking in the thermos. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8dpnbxnxJy3iYU.html

Not sure what you mean... how is it any different than thinking you are trapped in a house? One is not trapped anywhere w/ an umbrella or hooded rain shell. Yet I do think it would suck to live in HotelPrius in the PacNW due to rain... just my opinion tho.

Very informative. Thanks. You're like my son-in-law, bright, detailed, planful, his motto is, "Be prepared for the worst but have a good time." As you demonstrated how you put your bed together, I thought, "they could be twins." Jason was in the "airborne section of our Army," and he had a knack for folding parachutes. Over time, his buddies saw that his parachutes never failed, so they always made sure they chose one of Jason's. Put the other parachute folders out of business, I mean, what can commanders do if their troops aren't using the parachutes from other parachute folders? So, folding parachutes became Jason's sole duty. And, 'NOT ONE Parachute failed during his tour of active duty. Maybe if you're not making enough money, or need a little discretionary money, find a regional parachute field and 'learn how to fold parachutes, it's good money. And, if you're anything like my son-in-law, you'll learn it quickly and accurately--and, you can still 'travel. Airfields will get to know you, 'Hey, here's that guy, he'll be around for three months, let's hire him." ~~~~~~~ Create a circuit. Why am I suggesting this? I'm in H.R. and in Vocational/Employment; I'm trained to 'translate "skills and ability" into 'tangible options of employment for 'anyone.
@annami6314
@annami6314 7 жыл бұрын
Also, it's clear you come from a middle-to-middle-upper class family/status, you like things classy, clean, neat, organized--no junk. If you like my idea on folding parachutes for a p/t job as you criss-cross the country, you're going to meet people in your own socioeconomic group, you'll fit right in (and, though not excessively, OCD can come in handy). I have a minor case of OCD, but find it useful, for my dyslexia (it helped me overcome 'transposing letters/numbers)--and, I like my house and car 'sterile. I can manage a little 'clutter, but it doesn't appear you can tolerate any clutter. ~~~~~ I say, 'Use it!"

if you can pour molten wax in quart metal screw top cans and put them in your engine compartment to melt again. Bring them into your car at night to help stay warm.
