Today we meet Brent who travels extensively every year in his Toyota Prius, that he loves!! And why not!!? He gets 50 MPG, has all the electricity he needs, can run AC overnight if he needs to, and gets an amazing amount of room from a tiny--and easy to drive--space!

Bob, to me you're a hero. You could just be out living your life and enjoying some nice scenery and solitude, but you chose to blaze a trail and leave a light on for others. Thanks to you, I know a way I can continue to care for my son (he is 28 and has autism and a seizure disorder), when we can no longer afford to rent a home.

I just bought a 2021 Prius and I'm in heaven! This car is roomier than my Mitsubishi outlander! Plus I bought a full size foam mattress for $150 and it fits perfectly in the back. I sleep and look up at the trees and moon through the huge window on the hatchback door. Perfect for me

As a Prius owner with well over 100k miles on mine, I’m gonna tell you right now, the battery and electric motor are the strongest and most durable parts of the car, and I expect the engine to go before both.

If you happen to drive a Prius, please get an EMF Radiation inspection done, or borrow a TriField Meter to check the levels yourself. While the engine is running, test all areas of the car, including driver area near the gas and brake pedal, as well as the trunk area. I would also recommend having an EMF Radiation Inspection done on your Van if you have solar panels. If your inverter is not doing its job, the DC current is not converted to AC and you have a Radiation problem. Again, please inspect. This is important since you live in a small space and all of these devices are close to your sleeping and sitting area. I'm not trying to create fear, just awareness.
@ttotaler4541

Thanks for this-I’ve wondered about this issue but didn’t know how to ask the question. EMF radiation is a real thing not just wack-a-doodle paranoia. You’ve answered a question I never asked out loud- which is how do I find out if there’s any EMF radiation. But now what do I do about it if there is?

Great video! Just like always, Bob, you teach us to think outside the box. Thinking of a Prius as a generator instead of a car is perfect, and a very quiet generator, too! This video allows us to imagine combining an environmentally friendly and free existence while tapping into our creativity to make the inside of the Prius to match what works for us! Loved this video.

Love my Prius! Bought it new 15 years ago ('04) and it's been super reliable. The naysayers/FUDsters said that the battery would fail in 10 years or less, but that turned out to be fake news. Just ordered a Tesla (after 15 years, thought it'd be a nice upgrade... still keeping the Prius though). Hearing the same "the battery will fail!" FUD. Some things never change.

Just as in most things in life it's a trade off based on what is important to you and what your needs are and of course what your budget will allow for. I want to be able to travel to CA to be with my grandchildren and be in surrounding areas, warm climates and no more winters. I have had the big house, I have worked for "stuff" all my life and I now know what really matters isn't "stuff" at all so I look forward to the day I can hit the road and be free! Thank you for the videos that continue to give me the encouragement and hope for my future.

I've had mine since 2013 and have driven across country from Florida to California, Washington and back with 2 chihuahuas and a cat. We were very comfortable on our trip. Bob, I have a 2012 Prius V and it's stretching it to say the engine will completely recharge a depleted hybrid battery in 5 minutes at idle. At highway speeds probably but at idle when the car is sitting, there are the variables of how hot it is outside, whether the sun is shining directly on the car, etc. Once the hybrid battery discharges to a certain level, the engine automatically kicks on and charges the battery to about a third then shuts off again. It cycles like that. The Prius V does give you a lot more room and may be better suited for living out of. I still get 50 mpg in my prius V but that requires you knowing how to maximize the hybrid's ability and not driving a lot over 60 mph. It has been a great car. I wish It could be towed behind without a tow dolly. We still lean to the comfort side of the equation but I'm absorbing a lot from your great videos!

One important thing about lithium batteries is that lifetime goes up significantly if voltage range is smaller. Prius 0-100% charge is actually 20-80%. Plus they cap charge speeds to 3.3😢 Also, people think you have to replace battery in 10 years. With Nickel, that might have been the case, but with lithium, barring catastrophic failure, you’ll get maybe 70-80% capacity which is still very usable.

This rig really makes me miss my CHEVETTE diesels and my old Isuzu pup with C223T TurboDiesel. The little vettes would get 50mpg and the pup pickup truck offered 40mpg. I can only dream what a person would do for mileage if the Prius had a diesel engine as part of the drive system. Great piece of engineering on your rig man.
