Always strap the back pulling some against the front to prevent shifting. He has the tire against forward rail but the rear tire can shift side ways in a hard braking situation.

I bought some tank straps and I have a very similar trailer - mine is wider and I have flip over ramps. My question for the e tracks are how many screws per foot are you doing? And what length screws are you going into your deck? I'm looking to haul cars and motorcycles so that D ring set up is appealing.

have you loaded a trike? We are going to trailer a trike and a full size Indian. Was thinking the trike should go first and, maybe backwards in order to make maximum room for the Indian. Thoughts?

No tie downs for the back? Isn’t it possible for the back to move around? Also, no chock for the front tire? Isn’t it added security to keep it from moving side to side?

Interesting. Our railways have rules for transporting motorbikes which say they have to be placed on kick stand. Your kick stand is kind of in the air. Also funny part is that you have to do it yourself becasue railways employees don't want to be responsible in case something breaks off :D.

I just used my tank straps to transport my bike from Florida to Iowa. Here's a question... where should the tie down points be in relation to the forks? Do you ever have a problem with the front wheel turning to one side or the other causing the bike to lean?
@Srkcycles
@Srkcycles 6 жыл бұрын
great question. the tie down points can be next to the axles or more forward pushing the bikes tire on the front of the trailer or the truck bed. if the straps are tight the tire wont be able to turn and shift the weight of the bike. When wwe fill our trailer up, we will strap the bikes in the back with no chock or anything securing the front wheel other than the straps. and then we use a third strap to pull the bike to the rear. it will be just as secure as if it was in the front of the trailer. if you have any more questions feel free to give me a call or a text at 717.742.0539

Does anyone think that it would be a good idea to first of all strap the front wheel to the front of the trailer at the point of contact, to be sure the tire could not under any circumstances shift to one side or the other?
@johnrogers3781
@johnrogers3781 Ай бұрын
How can the front tire shift side ways. Seems practically impossible. An extra strap on the front tire may help the bike from shifting to the rear over bumps

so all the tension is on the bolts holding the fender on... Is that really safe? I'd think the handle bar would be stronger,. If those bolts break, bike is coming down.

Don't haha. I did this when I first got my kz750, even though it was a smaller bike, it was still sketchy and very tough to put on a truck with ramps. Even on a small incline it still took 3 guys to get it up in there.

@dukecraig2402
@dukecraig2402 6 жыл бұрын
Sooner or later you're going to tie down a bike like that for a trip and your front tire is going to lose pressure and you've had it then, 35 years of seeing just about every kind of tie down accident (one was an original '81 FXB unfortunately) that you can imagine and I've learned to always put the top of the straps high enough so that the tension is on the front suspension and not just the front tire pressure, if it bleeds off (like on a long trip, Daytona, Sturgis, Myrtle Beach) you'll lose your strap tension, pulling down the front suspension gives you tension for a long enough distance that straps can settle, loads can shift, and any one of a thousand little things that are going to happen on a trip half way across the country can happen and the bike will be OK, depend on tire pressure alone to hold your strap tension and one day you're going to look in the rear view mirror and get a real sick feeling in your stomach
@dcobb3120
@dcobb3120 6 жыл бұрын
You lose tension every time you hit a bump then it jerks back up to the limits of the strap. I've seen suspension blow out also. Strapping it down this way(especially on smaller trailers) also allows the bikes suspension to buffer the lack of suspension on trailers and makes for a much smoother ride. There are many different ways that have worked for many different people.

I guess you can do it that way but I wouldn’t trust it. I’d be afraid that bike can move. You need a wheel chock and you need to compress the front suspension from the triple tree. I’ve done it alone the same way starting off the kickstand with etracks across the trailer and a chock. Gone all over NY to Sturgis, Myrtle Beach, short trips. I guess you can’t do it my way with his setup. Not hating just think that bike needs to be more secure.

They should make a ramp that has a device that securely locks it in place. Having to strap it down does not seem to be the best method. just saying. Someone should invent a locking device.
