Learn how to easily lock and unlock objects in PowerPoint with the latest version. Instead of placing an object in the slide master, you can now right-click on it and choose the lock option. This prevents accidental movement of the object, ensuring it stays in the desired position. You can lock almost everything on a slide, and even a text box will remain editable but fixed. To access this feature, make sure you have the latest version of PowerPoint and update it if necessary by going to File - Account and selecting Update options.

I'm using the updated version of PowerPoint (365 subscription) but this feature is not showing. Is it gone in the newest version?

Guess what ! I have an IMac computer. After not being able to locate the lock feature after viewing this great tutorial, I contacted Microsoft and they told me this feature is not available on Mac computers. I’ve read articles about Apple products not supporting Microsoft products and obviously the article was correct. I have a MacBook Pro that is still like new ! It is 14 yrs old and I know that is ancient in the computer life. I can no longer get updated software for this laptop 2:46 2:46 so it would run Microsoft office. Apple needs to put expiration dates on their high price systems. Guess I’ll be buying a new PC laptop. When they are no longer usable I’ll not be to throwing away as much money.

This is very important issue you spotted on. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope that one day someone will invent a plugin connecting all the unsynchronizable tools and that will solve the problem. Cause I dont believe in big corps making a deal for the user comfort's sake.

They usually have delay in implementing new option in Mac, so soon it should be available there too. I guess that's the Microsoft's revange on Mac users they didn't choose Winsows :)

Microsoft just push people to use Keynote that is free and preonstalled on all Macs ) and yes it has such a basic and simple feature like “lock” object )))

hey can i ask, how can we lock everything on the content and only hyperlink button is functioning to go to the next slides? thank you in advanced >

Yes, we co do it. Two options: 1. You put all the content in Slide Master: Go to View tab > click Slide Master - and there you put all the content on each of the layouts. The hyperlinks can be inserted in normal mode (click X button from Slide Master tab to exit it). 2. You can create your whole content in normal mode and then save it as a pdf. Then everything will be uneditable for the recipient.

I want to lock a text box in a shape format, and then be able to drag them as one, where ever I place them. Now, I can only drag one at a time then I have to reposition the text in the shape.

1) In that case you need to group these elements. To do that: A. select these two objects (text box and a shape) B. right click on one of them C. choose Group> Group option. The difference between Lock and Group is that: - Group joints the two selected elements and you can freely drag them thoughout the whole space of slide just by selecting one of them. - Lock - locks the objects on an exact position on a slide. 2) But I rarely use the combination of text box + shape. Usually I paste a shape, select it and type the text in it. This way I don't have two objects, but only one. It's easier to align and reposition it on a slide. Hope that helps :)

@@SlideFormation Thank you. I didn't realize I could type text into the shape with a text box. Learning as I go along. Trying to write a procedure for employees, and this has been trial and error a I move along.

There is no option to lock it. Is a setting turned off or is such a feature no longer available?

It is available in PowerPoint in Microsoft 365 subscription version only. If you go to File>Account you will see what version of PowerPoint you have. If you don't see the Lock option, I guess you have an older version: PowerPoint 2013, 2016, 2019 or similar.

It is not available in MS Office PP 2016!! Is it hidden. Plz help me

In that case you can go to Slide Master (View tab > Slide Master) and you can insert some layout elements there. They will be locked and uneditable in the working mode. But be careful not to spoil the document with some random shifts.
