Started low bar squatting this year and I don’t think I could ever go back to high bar. It feels so much more stable. It feels abnormal to put it across my traps now. Used to be the exact opposite. Thanks for the advice Alan!

Awesome video Alan, after 58 years of lifting iron and 46 years of Powerlifting you just gave me some real clues to my wanting to fall forward. The next time I squat I'll drop the bar down lower, I know this will help keep the weight over the center of my foot. Even old dogs can learn new tricks (and much more) from watching your videos and applying the concepts they contain, Thanks.

I've tried high bar a couple times, always feels awkward. Low bar all the way.
@onurbole7921
@onurbole7921 5 жыл бұрын
That's called mechanical disadvantage. The further the bar is away from your hips the more upright you have to stay. That means more core stabilization. Try front squats and it will feel more awkward. Training is not about finding comfort zones though. All variations have pros and cons, you should maximize all of them at some point through years of training. Obsession with one version is a noob move. It is also likely that you will develop strength imbalances if you just do the most comfortable version. You think it allows you to use all the muscles at once, that's not false but you won't realize even if there occurs a weakness in one muscle group until you get injured, because you will still move heavy weights due to mechanical advantage that allows other muscle groups to compensate without significant defects in form.

I discovered your channel few weeks ago. Since I have learned so much from you! Especially the squat. 9/10 times I would hurt my knees trying to do squats. Not necessarily getting injured, just pain that goes away in a day or so, it feel like a micro sprain. Now I know why. I was going way too low, uncontrolled and trying to keep a straight back with a low bar. I was losing control and tilting forward at the bottom. Last few days, I watch your squat videos and stretching videos over and over. Studied them and finally, yesterday I applied them to best of my ability. Man... what a difference. No knee pains what so ever. I recorded before and after video's of me squatting and when I watch the before, it gives me chills -how bad the form was. I am still a beginner, and by no means perfect and I hope to improve and maybe even 400lb squat some day. You have no idea how much this meant to me. I just logged into subscribe, thumbs up and say Thank you! I truly appreciate your videos. You sir, are a very good teacher one of the best on KZfaq. If you have any workshops in so-cal I will be there! Thanks again!

Yesss finally the long awaited video. I've been trying to squat high bar like a fool for a year now because i thought i didn't have enough shoulder mobility. Then I noticed that i do have enough of it after all after playing more with different grips. After studying the squat more, using Rip's hip draaahve and giving up on trying to grind my back vertical, everything just clicked. Now I'm actually making progress and can't wait to squat again after my vacation. I used to hate squats deeply.

i just tried low bar squats today and I loved them. I used to have to lean forward and poke out my butt to stay balanced on the high bar squat, but that put a ton of stress on my lower back. With a low bar squat, my back doesn't really move since I am already in a leaning forward position.
