When you're ~TIRED~ of deciding which foot you're going to put on the ground every time you stop, put some Soupy's Adjustable Links on your DR. After I installed those on my DR, I went from my bike handling me, to *me handling my bike.* It totally changed my riding experience. Also, when you disassemble your forks and change your seals, change the spacers from the top to the bottom of your springs. It'll make such a difference that you probably won't have to raise them in your triple tree. And yes, you'll need to take (about) an inch out of that kickstand. Your other options are an adjustable kickstand, or a center stand. I opted for the adjustable kick stand so I could shorten it or lengthen it, depending on how I'm loaded. Adding those links was a good move.

No need to change the dog bones. Simply move the lower bolt in rear shock to the other hole. Dissemble the front forks, remove spring and move space from top of spring to bottom, reassemble. That is manufacturers method. 👍

I like this way it would still give you an option to drop it down even more if needed . How much are the bones, but wholly crap I don't have a machine shop like you got going on , I didn't hear your torque wrench pop, you put two grunts

I run soupys links in my ZX1400 Kawasaki no troubles whatsoever...lots of KM on the bike with em installed. I also internally lowered my forks. Cut the kick stand and weld a big washer on the bottom that what I done till I got a adjustable kickstand. Loves working on the bikes keep up the great work. Take care.

Never seen a DR650 done that way, interesting. It comes stock with a second hole it the other piece down there between the two wish bones. Most of the time I just see people move the bolt to the other hole and they’re done.

I just bought one. 2024 dr650s. It's a bit too tall for me. I'm gonna try to find that second hole ur talking about. An inch or 2 lower would be perfect

Thanks, good video. I have one DR with lowering links installed and it is much better than my other DR with stock links. I’ve gone to the second pivot hole in the stocker but it’s still too tall. Installing links next. Dropped forks 20-25mm in trees. I have 29” inseam so makes the DR so much better when both feet touch down. Thanks again.

Hey Kyle, I love your site. Thanks for all of the great info. I love that you are working with your pops. I have a 04' XR650L that I just bought from a friend and it's way too tall. So I am putting in a lowering kit and going to get a shorter seat too. What do you think of the Seat Concepts? I know they are spendy but i have heard they are comfortable. Also, who makes your jack and how much was it?

Changing the bones also alters the leverage at the knuckle, so it affects everything about the operation of the rear suspension. Putting the stock bones back in is highly recommended. DR650 has a factory built in options for setting the bike lower. Basic tools , shorter stand and new fork oil is all you need

Thanks for a great video on a DR650. I just got one last week and only need 2 inches lowered at most. My wife 5’ 2” wants one now as well! How much can we drop the bike without compromising too much? Soupy’s says we can lower this bike up to 4 inches with their adjustable link. But I want to get some more qualified advice and instruction. Thank you in advance for any correspondence. Eldon

I was hoping to see the front end lowered. I've got a drz 400 and can't get my front to drop. I loosened the 4 nuts on each side and it's not budging.

To adjust the front of the bike, couldn't you just slide the forks up in the triple clamp? Couldn't find your video on the sidestand mod. Where do I find it? If possible, please post a link.

I was okay with the stock DR height and then I put a wider seat and stiffer Cogent suspension front and back with proper sag and it's too tall with the wide seat and the rear spring is a bit on the stiff side. Going to lower mine with - 1.75" links and lower the front the factory way. Hopefully it's my Goldilocks bike after that. When humming and hawing about changing it I looked at a comparison between the height differences of a bike you can buy with seat height and ground clearance the same as a DR650 or in a slightly lower configuration which has the same seat height and clearance specs as a factory lowered DR. The KTM 790 Adventure R and Adventure respectively. The R is more dirt oriented and the standard is more street oriented but both are capable in both places. The way I see it is I'm not riding the DR up waterfalls. I take it on logging roads which are potholed, have ruts are loose gravel or rocks and sometimes steep. Basically really lousy roads and when sideways on a steep loose incline beside a steep drop off I'd rather be able to get a foot down and keep the centre of gravity as low as possible.

Becarefull lowering the bike to much if it is a true dirt bike look in too it for the particular model that you want to lower as if you drop it to much you lose suspension travel

How can i adjust the preload without taking the entire rear end of the bike apart? Can you do a video on that? Mine is set to the highest level (adjusters are at the bottom of the shock) and I would like to move those rings so they soften the rear shock.
@andrewstambaugh8030
@andrewstambaugh8030 Жыл бұрын
If you have a center stand, that unloads it. Mine has cogent's bling ring on it (Prior owner), so I just have to twist the spring (much easier than trying to twist the ring).
