A tip I have learned embossing leather strips for cuffs and collars for my husband. 1. Roll your leather piece through your machine front to back to get a deeper impression. 2. To not have such a distinct line, do not let your leather roll through the machine at the end/bottom of the piece where the embossing folder ends. I roll the leather forwards then back 2x for the 1st run. Then over lap my pattern and offset the folder over the pad so that it is not so thick and always remove my leather from the top on the 2nd run. I usually feed through the leather 2 times. forward-back-forward-back then move the piece of leather. Hope that makes since.

Yvonne, for the long pieces of leather, get another matching template, and tape them together with masking tape that way you do not have a line break in the leather and can run it thru the machine in one pass.

EMBOSSING and DEBOSSING are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief images and designs in paper and other materials. An embossed pattern is raised against the background, while a debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material (but might protrude somewhat on the reverse, back side).

Does it need to be raw leather? I upcycle leather from couches, jackets... whatever... so its already dyed, etc. Can I still use this method? Also, I have a Cricut Maker (2, not the newest one), which embosses, but you have to either create or purchase patterns, which isn't difficult, but a little more time consuming. You're skill set is so diverse and so polished, I'm a little jealous! But only in the best way 💗 that's why I chose to learn from you! Thanks for all the amazing videos. I've watched you're whole master class!

The pokey upside is the embossing side, because to emboss is to create a raised pattern. I’m seeing people on KZfaq calling stamping a depression embossing but it is not. Though you can use stamps to emboss. ….anything that is raised is embossed.

Love your enthusiasm. I hope to catch it. I'm searching for embossing faux leathers and Sizzix Texture Rolls and also the Kraft-tex I think it's called heavy duty and thicker materials. Most not nearly as thick as the leather you are rolling through today. But along the same principle. I do worry that for the faux or vegan materials the embossing won't stay even after you've run it 2-3 times through the machine and it looks deep and tight. It could loosn or relax or what have you. I'm going to play with it a bit more. I broke 3 of my 3D brand new dies running through with the Texture material and using what should not have been a too tight or thick sandwich and if I removed just one lighter sheet it wasn't embossing at all let alone cutting. So I increased and I managed to get my favorite through 3 times and then just like that not but changed nothing and when I forced it enough I guess it warped them out of alignment and wouldn't work no matter what else I tried. So I ran two more different embossing dies through and again on the very first run they came out warpped. One so bad it was curled up. Since they are expensive yeah I need to figure out another approach. Anyway I think the problem was not with the dies or the machine but with the too thick and very very tough material. I couldn't get a good clean cut with one of my other dies with an experimental product that's a shelf liner type material but it did kind of emboss. Btw I have seen some people have great luck embossing or indenting with the thin dies that cut but are thin enough they do not cut through the leather all the way but leave a great impression just the same and looks embossed. Check out another leather embossing with an embossing machine I believe they used a Sizzix though. I loved the hearts they managed to stamp into the leather using that technique. I have heard of embossing with a lighter sandwich thick papers too so I could see how it would work well with the properties of leather if not better. Thanks for your demonstration today. Enjoyed it a lot and picked up quickly your technique over lapping to avoid the lines between mulitple run throughs to get the full length embossed. Great tips.

have you considered using a 3d printer to print your own patterns on to plastic backers? I don't know much about the materials, like if they would be strong enough to handle the pressing, but I've seen where they 3d printed a gun...so I'm assuming they can handle a fair amount of pressure/stress. You could even design the pattern so top and bottom match for easier lining up on larger pieces. I also just noticed this video is over a year old...so this may all be an old idea already for you :P Very cool tutorial though

Embossing is a raised design - a logo or other graphic image, for example - that is pressed into paper or card stock from underneath. Embossing requires two dies, a male and female die, thus creating more production steps and die charges. The raised area can have ink applied to it, foil applied, or it can be left unprinted/unfoiled. When an embossed area is not printed or foil stamped it is known as a blind emboss. Creating an embossing die is usually a one-time expense. Ask your Metzgers printing professional for details regarding how involved your die will be, the time involved and the related cost. Debossing is the opposite of embossing. With debossing, the imprinted design causes depressions in the material leaving a depressed (debossed) imprint of the image on the paper or cardstock. Letters raised on metal plate. Debossing impresses a die into the surface of the paper material.
