What about the drag cork? Do I use grease or oil
@1983mikechan

Oil my friend. I totally spaced on that. Oil the cork and let it soak up at least a few hours but overnight is prefered👍

Yeah BIG fcuk up with the cork. I use a little graphite as well with oil. I guide if that matters

Leave line on for the off season, or take it off?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 7 ай бұрын
That really depends on how often you fish. For a fishing guide who is on the water for 60+ days during the season, the line would need to be changed. For someone like me who gets out a few times in the ocean per year, the line stays on the reels until I feel that it needs to be changed.

Not cool, was. :) Every single reel coming out from Islander has been hand assembled by Mike and another person at the shop.

I think that question is best answered by Islander Reels. You can always give them a call at the office, Elliott or Heather are always happy to answer your questions. 1-800-475-7335

If you're using your reels in saltwater, it's always a good idea to maintain them after a few trips regardless what brands you're using. A total overhaul is not necessary, but a bit of TLC will extend the lifespan of your gear.

@@FishingwithRod > thanks for the reply and agreed maintaining our gear is a good idea but this looks like a teardown. My 4000GTs get a washdown after the trip but a teardown like my scotty downriggers only happen every few months or yearly. P.S. I really enjoy your content and I hope you know how much many of us fisherman appreciate your efforts! Cheers

@@mikeandroi2698 In my experience it's not necessary to tear down the reel like he said after every other trip or whatever. Once at the end of the season is more than sufficient unless you're going absolutely crazy.

I tear mine down once a year but here in Washington State we don't get to fish that much anyway... ;-) Save the whales, kill some seals and sea lions. Way too many of them.
