Hi there, I've made the very stupid mistake of overtightening the screw (at 0:10) and the head of the screw has broken off in an attempt to loosen it. Do you have any recommendations on how I would extract the remaining screw out of the hole? Thanks

Thanks for posting this... I have 3 of the TMX5, and LOVE them. Originally started with the TMX 4 but after having the boat broken into 2 yrs ago and ALL our reels stolen (my sons MR3) even he has become an Amundson convert. We’re starting to have an issue with the drag on one of them, it’s goes from too loose to too tight, and I’ll be servicing it before this weekend. My question is what you’re using to spray/clean the old grease off. I’ve heard conflicting info from several different sources and don’t want to mess anything up. I’m located in Victoria so I’ll also check with the guys at Trotac. The info in the video has made it all less daunting now to ‘get Er done!’

sorry for the late reply, you'll find that the drag discs create a fine dust and with a bit of moisture it turns pasty. This will settle on the the little springs and won't allow the drag screw to tighten loose as nicely. Take those springs out, spray down with WD 40, dry off well then re-install. If this doesn't work, let me know. Cheers.

Coastal Blue Adventures Ltd. The timing is not a problem, I appreciate you taking the time to respond! That makes sense as to what’s happening to 1 of our 3 TMX5’s after researching the video but I’ll be digging into it (and checking the other two) later this week. If I find anything different I’ll let you know for sure. For us, springs have ‘dried up’ right now and coho are just starting to ramp up. With an off week it’s service gear time for me!

Hey V&T…thanks for the question. I’ve moved away from Amundson. They are ok for the money. Islanders are definitely better. But a much larger cost. I’ve also used coasts and luhr Jenson legacies. Coasts seem to be the best.

Good tutorial. Do you need to lubricate the shaft before putting the spool back on? Thanks

I generally do, a small amount. Especially on the top threads.

Yes, I always put a bit of grease on that arbour shaft. Cheers!
