As someone new to blender but not necessarily new to 3D I found the following parts very helpful 09:00 Object mode rotation translation and scale should be set to zero. To make these changes stick to edit mode. This is because in object mode your point of origin will move with the object. In most cases you need the origin of the object to be at zero. 11:00 edit mode. Press 1, 2 or 3 to loop between vertex, edge and face selection. Ctrl R-create an edge loop 12:00 enable clipping for mirror modifiers 12:20 go to view to decrease clipping distance 12:30 press delete on numpad or 0 to recenter camera 13:00 to align two vertices-press S to scale and X to fix it in the X axis and then press 0 15:00 edge slide to move an edge loop along normal. Alt select to select entire edge loop 16:00 dissolve edges rather than deleting them as deleting them would remove the entire face of the edge. 21:00 press k for cut / knife tool. To make the cut for the neck 24:00 Alt S - scale along normal 24:30 reduce sizes of edges to half 25:00 Alt mouse wheel- increase and decrease falloff while editing 27:00 Shift s- cursor to selected-changed origin to 3D cursor 43:00 Ctrl l-select everything physically connected 48:00 To merge different meshes their modifiers must be the same 58:00 save a new file whenever you want to do anything destructive 59:00 modifiers cannot be applied to models with shape keys 1:00:00 if you want to undo extrusion undo it twice to remove the extrusion 1:03:00 apply all transforms in object mode if you’ve edited them in edit mode so origin point is back at zero

some tips of things im noticing: - using a cylinder as the base primitive to model the body off of helps a lot having a more organic shape from the beginning, i usually spawn a cylinder with 12 vertices around it to start a model off with - for topology in general: triangles don't hurt you and won't actually mess anything up technically with the model, the only reason artists fear triangles is because they can mess with the LOOPS, so while editing, the loops will be affected if there is a triangle somewhere, but if you know how to work with or around that, triangles don't really hurt the mesh cause when the model is exported it gets triangulated anyway

Oh hey, for your knuckle problem I suggest using the smoothing sculpt tool in sculpt mode. You can set the radius small, the strength very low, then just click a few times on the sides of the knuckle bumps to round them out a bit. Hope that helps!

Well this is going to be a fun story to tell people. Learning how to 3D model at 1 in the morning. Upfront, easy to understand, and some appropriately used profanity, makes objectively a good video.

You're the first person to actually explain all this in a way that I can both understand AND isn't boring. Thoth surely blesses you for your gift of arcane knowledge. (

Literally my first time using blender and this video has made learning it so easy(so far)! I then looked at other blender how to vids, and.... whelp. let's just stick to yours and your recommendations! Aaand as an added bonus: seeing you edit your avatar file while you use it in your camera overlay is both incredibly helpful and motivating! Thank you!
