Strap in, this week's video is a long, and in-depth one, that goes over the entire process behind making a stoneware teapot. Parts thrown on the potter's wheel, then assembled, handle pulled, and so on.
Timecodes:
0:00 - Introduction
0:32 - Throwing teapot body
3:30 - Throwing lid
5:01 - Throwing spout
7:45 - Trimming and assembling teapot
20:19 - Pulling and attaching the handle
25:17 - Packing the electric kiln for a bisque firing
27:26 - Unpacking the electric kiln
28:02 - Waxing the teapot
29:37 - Glazing the teapot
33:19 - Rolling out the waddings to prop up the lid
34:03 - Packing the gas kiln
34:49 - Firing the gas kiln
37:32 - Unpacking the gas kiln
38:27 - Grinding the lid smooth
39:18 - Sanding the base
39:42 - Finished teapots
My wadding recipe is: 50% china clay/kaolin, 50% coarse alumina hydrate. Mix together slowly and then combine with water very slowly, as it seems to turn to a liquid very easily, so add less than you think.
The gas kiln is a Rohde KG-340, and my potter's wheel is a Rohde HMT 500.
Thanks for watching!

You have the absolute best 'tutorial' videos on how to do something. You're clean and concise and easy to listen to. I think this is the type of style that is the best for explaining about a process. As a tea enthusiast I am glad to see all the details that must be taken care of when making a teapot. A good teapot must feel natural, an extension of one’s hand and allow for clean pouring and easy maintenance. It’s that combination of little fits, chamfers, angles and bores that make or break a pot.

@@floriangadsby I copied your design for making teapots I am not going to sell it out of respect I'm going to keep it but I made a few of them and I'm going to keep all of them or give them to my family perhaps. The design lends itself very well for production work. Every time I walk by it and look I have to stop and look at it for a while. I'm having trouble finding a high iron content clay that doesn't turn almost black when firing if you have any suggestions I am open LOL.
