Hi there, Just to say thank You for doing these videos. I come in from My garage after a days engineering to watch...well You Engineering!! Just to be clear I'm not a model maker so don't worry I won't be telling You how to do Your job. I would call Myself more of an "angle grinder engineer" and most of My tools and machines came from aldi, but if You are careful You can do a lot with just some simple machines. I successfully skimmed the cylinder barrels on My 2cvflat twin engine and got an 11:1 compression ratio, just using My aldi pillar drill, an angle grinder disc, a cheap dial test indicator, a piece of glass, and some valve grinding paste. anyway thanks for taking the time to make KZfaq videos, I tried but just couldn't do it so it's appreciated. After watching Your video about the mamod TE1 A I found out My mamod TE1 A My childhood toy from the 60's it's still in it's box complete with all the parts and a mamod leaflet stamped with My local toy shop, just as it was on the day when My Mum banned Me from getting it out and lighting it.... as I had set fire to My cousin!! also wardrobe, carpet etc .Boy were those meths burners fun!! ; - ) ps, a good source of nice old mahogany is old antique broken furniture. I got a Victorian Pembroke table as scrap for £2.50 I took it to bits, then reworked the top into a dashboard for My classic car,. You see old mahogany furniture is south American mahogany it's a little bit darker and not as stripey grain and in My opinion looks much more period. and it's good to recycle and upcycle. anyway just thought You might like that tip Best Wishes Jahmahrah

Its great to see the finished project, am so desperate to find a table top lathe that is cheap enough locally but seems the locals round here hang onto things like that so will keep on trying as your videos have been an inspiration and I have grown out of the Mamod types and want to tackle a Stuart kit as I have a beautiful hand built small boiler just waiting. I did enjoy all your other vids too and thanks for the vape headsup :)

After watching your videos for so long I just had to get off my behind and make my first engine. It's a piece of garbage but it does run. I've also realized that model engineering is very addictive.

Too much copper & brass is a bit too bland for my taste - in full size steam boilers, fireboxes are usually painted black :-))) it's all a question of balance . . .

True that... the end result still came out great. You are right, the brass and wood did work well with the black.

I was just thinking ... one of these large sanding video's you should do a shot of the sawdust falling to the ground after sanding or blowing the sawdust away ... then you would have something to change up with paint drying ;)

i wonder why every steam engine I have seen is always painted in dark colours for the majority ... it makes me think if this is so they can get a passive heat boost for starting or running ... since darker paint will absorb and convect more heat than a lighter surface ...

Could the expression, "steam like a witch" be a reference to the Lancashire Witch built by Robert Stephenson and Company in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1828. It was a development of Locomotion.

Keith: been meaning to comment on your last remark for a few days now, so here goes...I think my contribution I make to you via Patreon is great value! I get to see some great videos and I also get to control how much I pay monthly. Personally, I would like to see you get rid of those bloody annoying ads and hopefully get the income you deserve just from folk who think you are worth it. I believe there are more of us out there, you perhaps just need to get the message across. Point out how easy it is, and that you can place an upper limit on monthly donations...you do a great job on your vids but I think you need to "sell" yourself a bit more/better.(an Aussie bloke who's model railway scenery construction videos I also contribute to is now up to 400 bucks a month, a little over a year since he started!) You're worth it man!

Thank you for being a Patron of my channel, I really do appreciate it. Regarding the KZfaq ads though, without them it would be impossible to do these videos, as the videos are increasingly taking a large amount of time to produce. Donations & Patreon help tremendously, but my main source of revenue is the KZfaq ads - provided people actually click on them, which a lot of people do. It takes time to sell myself and I don't have enough of that currently if I am to keep up the standard and frequency of my video uploads. Once again I thank you for you contribution via Patreon :-))))

We all appreciate all the work you put into these videos Keith, but if you feel it gets too much work, you could maybe drag something interesting out, and do a kind of show and tell. I think many of the things and engines you having laying about, might make a interesting video, and that would might not require as much work.

Hmm... while the black paint is nice, I can't help but feel it upsets the balance with the copper chimney and firebox rivets since the rest isn't copper anymore. Maybe the chimney needs painting as well?

I was wondering if you could preheat and preshrink the mahogany strips before making the cladding instead of having to do the patchwork after it has been installed and the boiler run.
@keithappleton
@keithappleton 5 жыл бұрын
I tried that but as I have mentioned in a few videos, if you heat the Mahogany before fitting it, then it warps and twists badly . . . .
