@@GetHandsDirty i know quite some time has past since this post but I found your awesome video, as I just recently learned about these instruments and am currently in my researching phase of my own future project. I was wondering if I could pick your brain in the tone department.. like your choice of key, final layout of note locations on the actual playing surface, etc.. Regardless, your final product looks and sounds amazing! I love the simple, streamlined, art modern-esque design features with the round edges, the sleek pattern of the tongues, the singular wood inlay pinstripe, and how both natural colors of the wood are pleasantly complimentary to one another but lend a beautiful contrast against each other. And last but certainly not least, the sound you achieved at the end of the process is amazing and inspiring. Such a peaceful and relaxing timbre. Hopefully this reaches you, and you receive my message of appreciation for your efforts and your work. I hope my end product looks and sounds half as good yours when I move from planning, onto and finishing to the building process. Cheers from California

I am like anyone who uses the KZfaq platform; I like to see videos of many topics and many people. It is a way to learn and know your human brothers in the world. But there are people who fill you with hope and teach you that if you want you can. For that reason and for a thousand reasons I want to thank you for everything you teach us. You are a great dreamer, a huge professional, but most importantly, you are an exemplary woman. I watch your videos with my wife (we both work in construction) and we show your videos to our 5 year old daughter. We want to teach her your values and your strength, and that women are like men, I dare to say they are stronger because that what I see also in my mother, my wife and my dear daughter. Thank you very much .. Peace, respect and love from Spain ♥

I love the sound of this so much. I was hoping it would be as simple as having a nice CNC router template the get the tones perfect but I guess each piece of wood is going to have variances in density and grain that will affect everything. What a beautiful instrument!

Now that I'm watching, it may have been the wood I used for the top. I may need to pick up some Paduk or Wenge. The extra mass may help as well. Yours not only sounds great, it's absolutely beautiful. Great Job Chris!

Maybe yes, KRT Wood talks about that on his video. I inserted a card to his video at some point here but his conclusion was that 1/2" is a good starting point rather than 3/4" or thicker. But it may depend on other factors...because if you search for drums from WoodPack or Hardwood Music Company, but all seem to be about 3/4" when paying attention to the videos/photos. So it's kind of a mystery somehow! But go ahead and read the PDF I wrote, you have free access on my patreon post an maybe my conclusions might help.

I had some success with 3/4". The trick is to make the tongue long enough or make sure the end is much thicker than the base. I did a few videos about tongue drums and have some blog write ups. Check them out if you are still stuck! Good luck it is a fun project!
