The Undertale & Deltarune franchise has spawned so many reimaginings of the series through fan animations that bring these characters to life - and the release of Deltarune Chapter 2 makes me wonder how an animated series would go down. Luckily, we have a few show ideas! From an interactive series to an epic anthology, here's how to make a Deltarune/Undertale animated series, and why it DESERVES to be made!

If they ever do make an Undertale/Deltarune show I hope they reach out to all the wonderful artists and animators in the fan community. It'd be a great way to keep that 'indie' vibe that made Undertale so charming while giving some very deserving people a first step into the industry.

That's a really good idea. Sega basically only hired fans to create Sonic Mania, and that's considered one of Sonic's best recent games.

You know what would be perfect? A prequel of Undertale that explains what led to the war between Monsters and humans, the first few years of the Monsters underground, and the story of Chara and Asriel. Of course, this might end up giving answers to who was Gaster and possibly the mysterious arrival of Sans and Paps, but if done right, it could be done ambiguously. Only feeding the lore, not totally answering it

To be honest, i´m satisfy whit the explanation that humans were just stupid cowards who were just too afraid of the potential power monsters had, also whatever happened to Gaster happened centuries after the war, the same whit Chara and Asriel, so i doubt the same series would be able to cover all of that.

I'd probably prefer a prequel story from the human's perspective of undertale story. Monsters mentioned that it was the power of monster absorbing human souls. Lead them to attack the entire race from their fear. But it would be cool to learn the history of humans. And it would also be nice to know more about chara's entire backstory rather than being the root of all evil. As for gaster. I think it would be better off if he's left mysterious. So far deltarune already trying to bring a closer connection of him existing in that universe

Here's the thing: I absolutely think this could be really cool if done right, but I'd want it to be written or at least overseen by Toby Fox. His sense of humor is a big part of what makes these games so appealing. Unfortunately, he's super busy right now, trying to finish the next three chapters of Deltarune, which seems like a HUGE project that might not be done for a while. But yes, I love this idea and I really hope someday someone will make it happen!

4:30 Undertale says violence is never the answer, Deltarune says there are times when violence is in fact necessary, but if you are just do violence then you will miss things important, and maybe even push them away

Asgore and Omega Flowey make you spare then through using violence though. And if you backtracking to where you start the game, Asriel will tell you that the best thing you can do is don't kill and don't be killed. The game are also really generous to you if you use violence for self defense

Honestly feel like a slice of life show would fit Undertale and Deltarune more than a story driven show would as it'd put more detail into some smaller Monsters and maybe other humans too. Would probably be after a Pacifist or True Pacifist route, with the only change being Frisk stays in the underground and changed their mind on leaving for Pacifist, and so those who want to see a fully officially animated fight against Sans, we could say Frisk did a Genocide route before, but stopped once they were about to kill Flowey

agree, it would be really good. If you are interested, the closest to that i´ve seen to something like that are the animations "Living situation", "Monsters on the surface" and "Noel" from jennypenny also, comics like "Ask for mercy", "ask drunk chara", "ask frisk and company", "ask Frisk and Flowey", "ask underswap paps", etc

@@tadeolaguarda6965 A number of AU's use this as a premise if they predominately feature some form of saved Asriel, like 'Growth Spurt' or 'a Dreemurr Reborn'. Largely because of necessity, but still.

Ngl Undertale and Deltarune would make for a good short webseries. Short enough episodes where we get to see the characters doing their thing sprinkled with the usual banter, jokes and occasional serious moments without stretching it thin.

If it did become a show on Netflix, and turned out to be great, it would be worth getting Netflix just for that. But I think getting artists and animators from the community to work on it would be a great idea, if they were to go that route. I would love to see how they animate Noelle and Susie on the ferris wheel, and other moments with Noelle, as she has the most interesting back-story in my opinion.

I really don't think Undertale or Deltarune really lend themselves to an animated series as well as people think, the former especially. Undertale is essentially a deconstruction/homage of JRPG's from the 90's, so concepts like "Saves" or "Resets" or "XP" might be lost on a casual viewer who doesn't play games. It'd be like adapting a musical into a book, you'd either be missing core elements that defined the original, or they wouldn't fit in at all.

true, however, it dosn´t need to be an adaptation of the games, it could just be a series that uses the characters, maybe a slice of life or something like that. it wouldn´t be the same, but it would be nice

@@tadeolaguarda6965 Honestly a prequel for Deltarune is something I’d particularly love to see. In the game we only get so many hints and inferences to what kind of Person Kris is(but clearly good) and how he acted before the Player so seeing some casual school days with full on Anti social Susie, Lesbian panic Noelle, flamboyant but despised Berdly with actual Kris at the center sounds cool. Especially since there’s a lot of flavor already set up for a prequel in the over word when you talk to everyone.

while an Undertale/deltarune animated series would be entertaining for sure, but i feel some the charm and pull of the games would be lost if they weren't games, Toby Fox seamlessly incorporates gameplay mechanics into real universe lore, things like Undertale's different routes and deltarune's implied conflict of Kris being controlled by the player make us think how we play videogames, and while the "choose your own adventure" style of Netflix show would be a better format, it would still go at a set pace and the same level of immersion and self reflection we get from those two games I just don't think wouldn't be possible in a show but again, it would be very entertaining

My only gripe with a show that had the characters we know and love is that fact that voices have NEVER been concrete. Sure the papyrus voice we know in love (Jacksepticeye) and others are soooo well imprinted in our minds to the point where they FEEL like they’re canon..they’re not. With that being said, Toby could easily and rightfully pull a Mario and cast Jack Black as Sans..which actually fits more than Bowser lmao, but you get my point. The voices have never been official so he could do whatever he wanted. If I hear a Papyrus that isn’t THE papyrus I’ve known for 5 years it’s definitely gonna come off as weird for the audience

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. I feel like Papyrus isn't a very good example since we all pretty much agree that he sounds like Skeletor, but other characters (like Alphys or Berdley, for example) don't really have that ONE voice style that's agreed upon by the entire fandom, y'know? This may be immature, but I would personally be kind of bummed if it wasn't my headcanon voice.

@@catbatrat1760 no that’s exactly what I’m saying. We all have a headcanon voice. Hell, I already have Spamton’s and Queen’s already. I’m saying that, even though we can ALL agree that Papyrus sounds like skeletor, it’s still technically head canon. Since Toby never said “This is what he sounds like”. So not saying that he would, but he very well could just give papyrus a completely different voice y’know? And personally I wouldn’t care if newer characters had a new voice, I haven’t heard them for years so it can be whatever as long as it fits the character. As long as Susie sounds like some rugged, badass tomboy and overall mean kid, I’m fine.

Honestly I'd like a non cannon undertale show. All animations take the characters and put them in funny situations that sometimes don't make sense. If they were cannon people's take on the character's would change. That is why undertale animations are good, not because they are official but because they are fun, and can be whatever they imagine

The creativity of this fandom is so amazing and finding your little niche is so easy. I love this fandom so much... Edit: I feel like if not handled right, there's a lot of things that will feel either too conclusive or too left out. The Gaster mystery for example, and all the FUN value events in Undertale. Or the man behind the tree in Deltarune. I for one hope there's only teases of these for die hard fans to catch them and add a bit more to the lore of it all.

YESSS. if i was making a show about undertale or deltarune, id leave TINY hints for backstories of certain characters. (gaster, sans and papyrus, chara, etc) we all know how much this fandom adores secrets lol

If there's gonna be a show, there should be "bloopers" at the end of most of the episodes, kinda like the old Barbie movies, where the characters are shown to be actual actors playing out their scenes. I feel like not only would people find that endearing (not to mention funny), but very on-brand for Toby's tendency to go all meta on us!

"The Legend of the Delta Rune" would be a good name, not just "Deltarune" as a name. And if Flying Bark animated it then it would be true perfection. A more episodic show would work, with epic season finales. About Undertale...it could work as a Bandersnatch-like animated special.

“Voice acting is done through Laughs and the sound of the text, and is often left up to interpretation” [insert Spamton/Jevil/Queen laughs here] Seriously if a Deltarune animated project happened somehow the Voices won’t run the risk of not sounding right because Spamton has a very clear and distinctive Laugh and [Big shot] that most have used as a basis for a voiceover. And Jevil is mostly voiced already

There could be a show about how the monsters were banished underground, or what happened to those kids Toriel tried raising in the ruins. And what the underground was like before the dreemur family fell apart.

An anthology series would be cool. Imagine an episode that takes place on the "King Papyrus" ending. We would see some nice interaction between the skeleton brothers. Or an episode that takes place a few days after Asriel's death and how the Asgore, Toriel and the kingdom are grieving from it.

I’ve been thinking about the same thing for years. Undertale/Deltarune could make an amazing show. If they ever do one, I would hope would include both Toby and Temmie as they are a huge part of the franchise. (Off topic but I also think if done correctly, DDLC could make a good show as well)

@@travispouk3472 Don´t need to be 12+ for that, mosters can´t bleed so they can make it PG, as long as there is no blood they can show almost anything.(ok, maybe not, but seriosly, the other day i saw a an episode of an animated show on Netflix rated 7+ were there were a group of people fighting to death and there were arms and heads falling everywere, even one of the main characters got decapitated and died before being revived alongside everyone else to start again, but since there were no blood, they allowed it on a show for kids 7+ years old)

I'd like to know about the rest of Deltarune's world. Specifically the relationship between humans and monsters. Besides Kris, there are only monsters in their town. Are there towns where monsters and humans live together, or are they all mostly segregated to separate towns? For what reasons? Do humans and monsters as a whole get along or is there some tension between the two?

I feel like the voice cast should honestly be the crew on the “Undertale Comic TV” or the voice crew from “Undertale the Musical/Deltarune the (not) Musical”, their voices for the characters are phenomenal and fit perfectly, and as silly as it sounds, even the Smashbits voices from “If Undertale were Realistic” even somewhat fit the characters

It can either be a prequel, a show that shows the beginnings of each character and how they got to where they are, or just a slice of life type show with these characters

I just hope sans doesn’t take the centre stage and isn’t wildly OOC the entire time. The fandom always mischaracterises him and it’s one of my biggest pet peeves.

Ever since I started watching undertale comic dubs back in 2015, I've always wanted a show about the monsters adjusting to the surface world. There's just too much potential for hilarious hygienics and incredible stories there.

I totally disagree but I can understand. Just allow the fandom expand upon it as they please, it's already there. There is a charm it being pixelated and as a game. There is just so much not unlike a series can show.

this is a really smart and pragmatic approach to this! i love seeing fans reimagine undertale in other mediums, but its status as a video game is an integral piece of its story, and you really approached that wisely and respectfully instead of trying to pigeonhole it into something else

What I'd like to see is a world building series we're we get to see in-depth what our favorite charecters do after a true pacifist route, sure we see snipets but... imagine this: while packing/unpacking Papyrus find sans' journals and hijinks ensue. Or undyne discovers one of the amalgams ect.

Honestly I say let’s do it ! If y’all have seen “Love , S&& and robots on Netflix, we could do the same on this platform . Different artworks . Different universes , and different animators . Maybe we should get a team together! I’m a clay sculpturer so I practice clay motion so let’s make our own series. Not just for undertale and deltarune but fnaf , bendy , cuphead and etc.

UNDERTALE and Deltarune work specifically BECAUSE they are games. You just don't get the same feeling as ,, I'm befriending these people and it feels good" or ,, I'm mercylessly slaughtering those people's families , devastating the survivors to the point of suicide and emotionally manipulating a small baby dear to commit mass genocide" from an interactive show as you do if you have the controller yourself. Some media is designed to work only in its respective genre.

I’d like a series about the seven fallen humans (Chara and the six unnamed humans). Each episode would follow one of the humans in their journey through the underground and end with their death, whilst also showing the gradual evolution of the underground into how we see it during the events of Undertale.

step one: don't Undertale and Deltarune work best as an interactive experience, that translates best as a video game. It's about how the *player* interacts with the game. Removing that element removes both a huge chunk of the narrative and a lot of the enjoyment you can get from it.

I wouldn't want to see undertale or deltarune as a show, it kinda defeats the whole purpose, "the player isnt in control" which is kinda counterproductive when ALL SHOWS arent in a players control, you watch shows, theres no 'the player isn't in control" if there was never a player to begin with. Undertale and deltarune are games which ride on the idea of them being self aware games

I know right?? I think people aren't realizing that there could be a lot of issues with turning one of these games into a tv series or movie, the most important one in my opinion being the fact that the whole story is influenced by the fact it's a game- If it was a tv show, it would probably be impractical to implement concepts that are associated with games (save/load, exp, LOVE, players controlling Frisk and Kris, and so on) into the narrative, and even if it didn't focus on the original story and was more of a episodic show it could still lose the elements that makes the game so much fun! I'm sorry I just can't find the right words, but as a Undertale/Deltarune fan: I wouldn't be so happy if these games were turned into a tv series or movies, I feel like it would lose the charm of actually playing it and experiencing "the adventure".

I also actually had a thought about an undertale show which was an interactive thing where you can choose to kill or spare and choose your own run but that is a lot of work to animate 3 or 2 different shows (if the neutral run isn't so important). Who knows if the show could take a 2nd person view so you don't even see yourselves so which will stick with the naming at the beginning.
