Hi. I just wanted to show you all how I make chicken waterers on the cheap. All you need a feed bowl and a 5 gallon bucket. That's pretty much it. These hold quite a bit of water compared to traditional store bought waterers without breaking the bank.
Thanks for watching.

Suggestion: put your hole near the lid, fill, put cover on, flip whole bucket over, watch it fill. That way you can still use the bucket as intended if the water source is far away.

Just made one with the expensive chicken gravity cups. Started it today and I had to constantly go push the yellow spout in each cup and came on here to see why they were not working...$9 for 2 cups and I got 6 which is recommended for a 5 gallon bucket. Why didn't I see this before today...so easy and actually common sense! Fantastic job! My flock will definitely use this technique in their run where they spend their entire day and evening. I personally would be afraid for baby chick to use but this is PERFECT for our outside usuage of 40+ chickens! Thanks so much for sharing 😊

Love it! I've been using those spring operated self filling cups and those are good for a time until the spring doesn't want to spring anymore and you're stuck with dry cups. I always say the fewer moving parts the better.

I'm a new subscriber; I watched in awe. How could this be SO Simple, seemingly so effective (based on how much they love it) - and even economical. And 'cheap - cheap' is always good (to hear) around the coop! Great idea - I'm getting set to start a few birds, maybe for next season... researching coops for HOT summers but COLD winters... This makes so much sense - I'm going to try it for my dogs to test it. Already have spare buckets with lids; (honey pails are square but same idea) and going to build one upside down to this. :-)

@@NicholsCounty I thought about that, but since it will be hanging on a string off the handle when not in use, I thought the chickens may be more prone to peck at it rather than at a wooden plug.

you don't have to fight it. you don't even have to have a tight fitting lid or gasket. just put your hole near the top of bucket, put the lid into position, invert the bucket and place it into the pan which should have been pre-filled. truth is, it wouldn't even need a lid but it is hard to contain the water in the bucket when you invert it without a lid. I know this is too late for you but may be helpful to someone else.

Please forgive me for the long comment. I just have 2 questions and not really sure how to explain them, so please, bare with me, lol. Okay, sooo.. I accidentally just went ahead and put 3 holes roughly 1-1.5" of the bottom of the bucket.. I wasn't paying attention and now the 4-5" tall container the water drains into only fills up about 1-1.5" lol. If I were to go ahead and put a smaller hole or two higher on the bucket closer to the top of the container, would that still work to fill it higher? Or am I screwed and have to get another bucket? Also, how do you keep the container they drink out of clean? My 4 chickens just kick mud, hay and crap all inside of it. The regular 1 gallon waterer I have, I had to tie a rope to the handle and to the top of the coop so that it's elevated a good 6" off the ground. That worked really well, but I don't see how that would be possible with this system here.. I thought about a couple cylinder blocks, but for some reason I feel that they would just knock it over somehow because they're kinda reckless and just jump on everything. So, I'm not sure how I'm gunna be able to keep the water bowl clean..
@NicholsCounty

Duct tape the bottom hole and drill a new hole. If it works for your water level then now you know where to drill your hole for the next bucket. Raise the waterer up to keep debris put. Use papers or bricks.
