This is a super easy poultry feeder and waterer. My Cornish cross chickens were starting to empty out the other feeder I had, so I made one of these to keep the maintenance down and make it easier to take care of these guys.

These pans were used for both the water and food and have lasted 4 years now.

I'm Glad you like it. Our first one lasted 4 years now and the water bucket just broke the handle. We got a new bucket and are back in business!

I like your idea of turning over the water bucket. Other videos I've seen, they fill up the bucket, and water is spewing out, and they quickly rush to get the lid on so that it will create the vacuum needed. But in your case, you just turn the bucket upside down and the vacuum is created.

This was our 5th year using this design and it still works just as good. We have had to replace a few buckets, but rubber tub is still good.

I think I would need to see a video of the waterer being put on the feed dish Im sure I would end up with water everywhere

It's not too bad. Once the lid is secured, there is just 1 hole in bucket for water to come out. You just aim the hole away from you and tip it over and into the feed dish.

We got them from Tractor Supply. They were a few weeks old and the store didn’t want to keep feeding them so they marked them down and we took them all.

How do you keep the chicken from wasting food? I've tried this method for my pigeons and there seems to be more food on the floor than in the bucket?

Our birds don't waste too much. We also only feed for 12 hours, then take the food away. Any spilled food gets eaten.

I made one for water, but the feed trough just overflows with water when the water level in the bucket gets too high. What did I do wrong?

The bucket might not be sealed all of the way. It has to be air tight so it holds the water in.

Oil drain pan cheaper by a bunch. Feeder looks great. How in the world do you fill that water bucket and then turn it upside down?

The lid comes off of the bucket to clean and fill it. Once full you just tip it back over. Great idea on the oil drain pan.

@@EggersnBacon Are you saying that you replaced the lid on the waterer bucket and then inverted it into the tub? It's hard to see if that bucket has a lid or not once it's in the tub.

@EggersnBacon is there a reason it needs to be inverted? Could one drill holes near the bottom of the bucket, fill with water, and then pop a lid on top?

I did that with a shallower tray bolted like your feed bucket. The water just keeps flowing out over the sides.

Thought maybe I was missing something. The 5 gallon waterers at Tractorsupply has a ring in the middle under the bucket that rises and falls with water level cutting off flow of water. Maybe this bucket system needs something like that?

Is the bucket air tight? It cant have any other holes except under the water level.

On the water bucket why do you have to tip the bucket upside down?

You take the lid off to refill the bucket with water. You then carry it to the pen, and then flip it back over into the tub.

I will measure it. I think it’s a 17” 3 gallon rubber feeder, but I will double check.
