We have 3 Basset Hounds, Live in Illinois USA and winter is coming fast. they love to snuggle and do get chilled on real cold days so am planning on making 3 of these for their winter beds. Will be using some egg crate type foam instead of the pillows, maybe doubled. but thanks for the great idea!

I've made 2 beds for my small dog. One with an inexpensive pillow, thinking of comfort. It was all discobobulated after one wash. The pillow's insides bunched and moved. If you really want a well done long lasting bed, don't skimp on the pillow. Even a better pillow won't drive the cost up as high as store bought beds. Most fabric stores will make a remnant from a fabric that is any less than a yard and fleece is nearly 60 inches wide. I used a doubled quilted fabric at half price for the second bed. You can also button tuft through the fabric and pillow to the back every 4 or 5 inches and tie knots cut close without a button to chew off that will prevent pillow batting from bunching in laundry. Lastly, if you every watch both dogs and cats they enjoy stretching out on bare floors and the lawn. Its us that puts them on couches and beds. Sometimes my lil girl would be sleeping and roll off. She loves her newer bed. Its for her comfort not Couture looks. I made the first one many years ago when the stores wanted 60 dollars. I knew I could make one plus I worked at JoAnn Fabric at the time. I used doggy paw print fleece and purple the 2nd time. Many times She still chooses a throw rug by the door and she's getting old. One might think she'd choose soft and comfy now. I guess dogs are dogs after all.
