DIY DOUGH BOWL
Hi! Sooooo I have been dying to make one of these dough bowls for so long!! I wanted to give it to a family member for Christmas so that was perfect motivation to get started! This was SOOO MUCH EASIER than I thought it was gonna be. Its totally open to your personal preference as to the dimensions and shape of the final project!
Tools used:
Miter saw (optional) - amzn.to/2DYGyOI
Table saw - amzn.to/341H1u2
Angle grinder: amzn.to/352Wg7d
Disks for grinder
Gater 36 grit - amzn.to/38jXzR6
Gator 60 grit - amzn.to/351zA7s

Bosch Sander:
Gator 120-800 grit - amzn.to/2P3BX4d
Gator 120 sponge- amzn.to/352JW6O
220 sponge - amzn.to/352Nw0L
Titebond: amzn.to/2s4DM7S
Pony Clamps: amzn.to/38feapi
Watco butcher block oil - amzn.to/2YsqMVz
SAFTEY GEAR:
I used a different mask and it wasn’t sufficient for this project so I would recommend this instead.
Mask - amzn.to/2Ps7j3r
Goggles - amzn.to/2qBndA4
Ear protection - amzn.to/33YV5o5
That’s it! Thanks for watching - don’t forget to like and SUBSCRIBE It makes my day and helps me keep doing these videos. THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!
Brandi

Nice job on the dough bowl! I know you mentioned carbide cutters in your video and I know the grinding wheels you used were less expensive but when you make chips instead of dust your ckeanup time is cut in half. Just something to consider if your going to make bowls or carve more often. Again nice job.

For future reference, the oil you used could be replaced with common mineral oil from any pharmacy. It's much cheaper and does the same thing. Many "finishes," or treatments, like the Watco Butcher Block oil, are as much hype (Madison Avenue advertising) as anything else. Take Watco Tung Oil finish, for example. It's just thinned finished boiled linseed oil based poly. Mineral oil is a great treatment for things like this. As wood dries, it shrinks, which will cause cracks and splits. The oil will keep soaking in until the wood is saturated (many coats slathered on and allowed to soak in, rather than wiping them off). This will swell the cells and many fine cracks will appear to have disappeared. All that aside, good job. It turned out nice.

Hello, Love the Doughbowl , I was wondering how you cut the angle on the ends? I just bought a table saw for projects and I chose to try your nice bowl. I’m not understanding how to hold the piece to get the 45 on all sides. The video seemed to speed up or skip past a part that I am having trouble with.
@EternalHarvestDecor
@EternalHarvestDecor 3 жыл бұрын
I actually used my table saw to do the 45°, but you could carve the inside first and then flip it and carve a tapered base to. Either way

@EternalHarvestDecor
@EternalHarvestDecor 3 жыл бұрын
Oooh good question, you could always grind the middle first and then flip it over and grind the under side too. I’ve seen a bunch of dough bowls done like that as well. Gives it a more rustic look but I think it could be really pretty!
@lory6605

Before you glued the 2 alder boards together, did you first have to plain the 2 sides with glue ? Is alder expensive, it sure looks nice?
@EternalHarvestDecor
@EternalHarvestDecor 3 жыл бұрын
I did yes, and alder is a hardwood but I’ve found it’s not much more then box store lumber. It’s much prettier and dryer and has become one of my faves. I make lots of tables out of it so I had some scrap pieces from a table

After watching your video, I think I can do it. It looks like you used two pieces of 8/4.alder. Is that the correct lumber thickness? CW

If you are actually going to use it for making dough, the inside shouldn't be finished. You want the yeast to stay in the bowl. The method is to mix flour, salt and water in the bowl and let stand up to 2 days. Wild sour dough. Check out Townsends video!
