How to make a Drawknife - Transforming old SCRAP into a USEFUL tool!!

Forging a woodworking drawknife. Hand-forged from a piece of recycyled leaf spring suspension. Octagonal faceted olive ash handles made from an old broken hammer handle. Sharp as all good tools should be.

Buddy I've watched a tremendous amount of making draw knife videos and I am at a loss for words, this is to me what a draw knife should look like, I am totally amazed at the craftsmanship in this knife,I've seen what high quality ones sell for and it's jaw dropping, but this one I would imagine me paying that price for this one. In other words"fantastic work".

Very interesting forging process. Your use of camping firelighters has given me a good idea for smokeless starting of charcoal, thanks for that; (gotta keep the neighbours happy). I have limited access to scrap steel, so made mine from a common tool used here in Asia; an old Machete. It turned out to be extremely useful.

What is the gravel-like product that you shoveled onto the forge.

That's absolutely right! I made it by copying lots of other designs I found online. I've been really enjoying using it for projects like this. They do need quite a high pressure blower to get good performance though..
